Producer Spotlight: kyotnP
KyotnP / (∵)キョトンP

Kyotn's name is read as "Kyoton". I don't know if he is a guy or if she is a girl, so we'll be stuck with he for now.
KyotnP is a rather seasoned producer, having started on his Vocaloid career only at the end of 2009. Because he's been composing more than a year, he has put out quite an impressive list of songs, most of them underappreciated. However I think most of you might know his works and just weren't conscious of him as the producer.
KyotnP's music is largely influenced by foreign, mostly European electronic music. His stay in Belgium when he was a child and in Canada for a few years has contributed a lot in his musical styles. His songs are often dance tracks, his earlier works more chiptune-ish to trance-like, while his recent ones being more of disco and house music. He's very particular with using catchy, upbeat melodies laced with various electronic sounds. Some of his songs are rock ballads, but the majority of his works are more into disco music. It is best if his songs are listened to using earphones/headphones because he has wonderful speaker effects noticeable only at loud/close-range listening.
His lone Vocaloid is Miku, who is interestingly tuned in a large variety of ways. In his disco music she's often high with a softened tone so she's not hard on the ears. In his rock ballads, she's tuned medium to low to match the simple guitar/bass work. Aside from making Vocaloid works, Kyotn also actively composes instrumental (under indies) DTM music, which is surprisingly different from his Vocaloid works.

It's a bit embarrassing that I only heard of KyotnP because I loved his version of Heart Sutra Techno mix. Since then I've had a love and hate relationship with his works, either I love it to bits or it refuses to stick with me. There's so much to say about KyotnP's music since it's so varied but I can't summarize it enough so you'd have to go through his mylist yourself. Some of his songs are pretty good but they're often underappreciated because electropop is common in the Vocaloid community. Lately, he's been getting a lot of hits for his house music, which are all actually well done (especially Kimi no Kakera). Somehow, his older hits like 6900000000 reminds me of Treow and Clazziquai (a Korean band) and I wish he'd make more of those.
I was most surprised with his DTM/Non-Vocaloid compositions since they are different from his Vocaloid releases. I mean, he has ethnic/traditional-inspired music there O:. To be honest, all I can say is that KyotnP's music is very varied and has a lot to offer. Somehow I felt that his earlier works was him checking his footing in terms of musical styles and I'm amused he has found success recently with house/disco music. I look forward to more of his experimentation and other styles he's willing to try (currently I have the feeling he's about to try hard rock/screamo LOL).

I am so swamped with work I want to cry every day, and I've actually taken a vacation from Twitter so I can concentrate on my job. Also his twitter is :http://twitter.com/wsw_FLChan but it seems to be more related to his DTM music stuff, which I do agree with very different than his vocaloid stuff! I think he goes under Yuki Nishijima for those works?
