Weekly Vocaloid Ranking # 192 (May 30 - June 6, 2011)

First off, thank you to Stephie for covering the Vocaran while I was away! ♥.

This is sippotan's first weekly Vocaran upload since he went into a hiatus because of the earthquake in Japan last March. Aside from this weekly ranking, he also did the usual midyear SP ranking, although I opted not to do a writeup of it unless you guys are interested :). Anyway, this week has a lot of songs which I love, so let's get going.

This week has a lot of the Kagamines, you might notice (I don't mind it AT ALL). This is because of kagamination, a set of compilation CDs of the best Kagamine producers' works. It will be released during VoMas16 soon and will also (HOPEfULLY!) be released in online stores. Their lineup is so amazing.

↑# - the song moved up from a previous top 30 rank
↓# - song moved down from a previous top 30 rank
- song is a re-entry to the top 30 rankings

Songs are arranged from 1-30.

01. Ama no Jaku (GUMI) - 164
- 164 releases another rock song with GUMI. It's surprising hearing GUMI going so high against awesome guitar playing. Definitely a favorite song this week, since there are also tons of covers in the utattemita ranking.

02. Astronauts (Hatsune Miku) - PowapowaP
- In between two hard rock songs, we get a beautiful rock ballad by PowapowaP who has a new name again. The guitars are only hard in the intro, but the rest of the song is very gentle with Miku's softened voice singing against tame guitars. I'm reminded of ryuryu's works ^^;.

03. Hiatus (Hatsune Miku) - mstkP
- Probably one of the impressive releases this week, MasatakaP goes all out with his guitar-rich hard-rock song. Miku is tuned deep and sharp and almost screaming against the loud melody.

04. Goban Me no Pierrot (Kagamine Len) - AkunoP
- Title means "The Fifth Clown". Something new from mothy, which involves a high-pitched Len I haven't heard in a while, tragic lyrics as usual and fast-paced fantasy rock melody.

05. Seidenki (Kagamine Rin and Len) - emon(Tes.)
- ↑14 Title means "Static Electricity". The PV is a bit dizzying and yellow but the song is too cute!

06. Saiaku no Carnival (Kagamine Rin) - LiveP
- Title means "The Worst Carnival". The first thing I thought when I listened to this is "Ahhhh that lovable Rin tuning ♥ XD" Anyway, LiveP goes back to his poprockish melody with Rin sharp on vocals. It might sound a bit similar to his earlier rock works.

07. Sweet Poison Factory (Kagamine Rin append) - MachigeritaP
- The PV creeps me out even though it's sugary pink. Somehow I thought Machige's Rin sounds like his Miku, too.

08. 2525 Yuuenchi (Hatsune Miku) - KurousaP
- KurousaP's music style never changes, but his songs, with their anime-ish appeal, are always a pleasure to listen to.

09. Trap (GUMI) - KK2
- This is an impressive song with high-pitched GUMI and jazzy, beautiful music, but somehow it seems too noisy for me? Like, there's a lot of stuff going on in the melody that GUMI gets drowned a bit.

10. Kaitou Kubozono Chiyoko wa Zettai Miss-ranai (Kagamine Rin) - PowapowaP
- Title means "Mysterious Phantom Thief Kubozono Chiyoko Never Makes a Mistake". I am confused with all the PowapowaP names now D:. Anyway, this is one of his typical songs, electro-pop with a beautiful keyboard intervals.

11. Chameleon (Hatsune Miku Sweet) - Nana
- Typical Nana pop, but with softer vocals (it is sweet Miku after all).

12. Yuuyami no Satsume Uta (MEIKO) - Kiraboshi Hikaru
- Title means "Twilight Killing Song". This is beautiful. The melody is fantasy-ish and the kaleidoscopic video is not hard on the eyes. It's been a while since I've heard an impressive MEIKO song.

13. Shindenkei Psychogenic (Kagamine Rin) - HannyaG
- Title means "Psychogenic Electrocardiograph". HannyaG is mostly known for art and movies and of course, the art for Heart Sutra rock. This is actually the first time I've heard her Vocaloid composition. Her music is a bit YM-ish in terms of fast-crazy beats and Rin is tuned high, fast, but impressively well. Watch out for deafeningly high Rin.

14. Koi no Hana (Kagamine Rin) - Kouhei
- Title means "Love's Flower". The melody of this song is just amazing and Rin is surprisingly tuned very well. I think this is turning to be my favorite Kouhei work.

15. Life is beautiful (Kagamine Len x GUMI) - takamatt
- I will be very biased now and say this is my favorite song in this ranking if only because of the Vocaloids. I looooove Len and GUMI duets and they're so rare! This song has a bit of similarity with Just a Game in terms of the beat, but the rest is actually sugary pop with only a hint of jazz.

16. Do-M (Hatsune Miku) - BuriruP
- It's as the title says XD. It's a song about Do-Ms in Buriru's own brand of rock and high-pitched vocals.

17. Ai (Hatsune Miku) - KulfiQ
- - ↓12 Title means "Love".

18. Unhappy Refrain (Hatsune Miku) - wowaka
- ↓11

19. Matryoshka (Hatsune Miku x GUMI) - hachi
- ↓17

20. Sekai no Hajimari (Hatsune Miku Append) - whoo
- This is a dose of whoo's usual postmodern rock, still with the periodic drums and orchestra-like effects.

21. DON☆TEN (VY1) - OwataP
- ↑28 This deserves to rise more because I think Owata did a good job of tuning VY1 in a way unique-sounding from other Vocaloids

22. Unhappy Refrain -cover- (Kagamine Rin and Len) - GigaP
- ↓2

23. Kishimojin Zakuro (Megurine Luka) - Rerulili
- Title means "Kishimojin's Pomegranate". After all his ballads, jazz, punk, Rerulili tries his skill with rock, this time even using Luka instead of his usual Miku. This man can do anything, honestly.

24. Kanousei to Mirai no Hazama ni Ukabu (GUMI) - uzP
- Title means "Uncertain of the Difference Between Possibility and Future". Uz tops his other works with this very powerful song, with ringing guitars and drums against GUMI's soft singing. I don't know how he managed to blend all the loud sounds and GUMI's smoothness together. Regarding the title, Kishimojin is a Buddhist goddess (original name is Hariti) of childbirth, child-rearing, child protection, and overall well-being of the family. She is often depicted with a pomegranate on her hand, a symbol of fertility because of its many seeds.

25. Shuudou Shoujo to Guuzou Shoujo (Hatsune Miku) - cosMo
- ↓01 Title translates to "The Beginner and the Idol"

26. Tap and Beat (Kagamine Len) - LeleleP
- I am very pleased with the Len songs in the ranking since he's so rare these days! This is LeleleP's usual bouncy, teen-sounding Len singing to a pop-ish beat.

27. Himitsukichi (Hatsune Miku) - MochiibeP
- Title means "Secret Base". This song is similar to "Tokarev to Shoujo" when it comes to sassy beats and smooth Miku tuning. This is just a bit slower and less rockish than the previous.

28. Mozaik Role (GUMI) - DECO*27
- ↵35

29. Sakura Uta (GUMI) - vatako
- A producer I haven't heard of before. GUMI sounds a bit monotonous, but the melody, especially the occasional cymbals abuse makes it quite catchy.

30. Mekakushi Cord (Hatsune Miku) - Jin
- This is a fast-paced electronic song almost wowaka-ish in sound except not because of even more high-pitched Miku and bass overload.
