Weekly Vocaloid Ranking # 196 (June 27-July 4, 2011)

This week has a looooot of Vocarock songs so all of you who love hard guitars and snappy drums, this week is for you. There are a lot of new ones, so those that rose a bit last week were pushed down once again. Since last week is also GUMI's birthday celebration, we see quite a bit of the GUMI songs from there here! And did I mention that I love this week's number 1? XD

↑# - the song moved up from a previous top 30 rank
↓# - song moved down from a previous top 30 rank
- song is a re-entry to the top 30 rankings

Songs are arranged from 1-30.

01. Majo (Megurine Luka) - SuzukiP, Ryoutai, HiyokomanjuuP
- ↑13 Title means "Witch".

02. Futari de (Hatsune Miku Append) - Nekobolo
- Title means "The Two of Us". What a classy song, like most of nekobolo's works. The music is not intimidating and encompassing and Miku just gently glides through the entire song effortlessly in a whispery voice. The beat might sound a bit repetitive, but it escalates in the chorus!

03. Romantic Breaker (Hatsune Miku) - PistonP
- Another song with wonderful drums *_*. This one sounds really rockish at first, but actually it's kind of poppish in the middle XD;. The art is so cuteeee

04. SUPER☆VACATION (GUMI) - Kouhei
- I was expecting this to be cutesy pop because of the title but apparently, Kouhei has other plans. Like making the song more alternative rock XD.

05. Black Hole Artist (Kagamine Rin x GUMI) - UtsuP
- This is a bit tamer than most UtsuP works since this is not actually hard rock. And I'm distracted by the MMD models XD.

06. Upstairs (Kagamine Rin) - TOKOTOKO/NishizawasanP
- This is a light rock song with NishizawasanP's signature echoing guitars. Rin sounds a bit sharp but somehow it works.

07. Ame Iro Hanabi (Hatsune Miku) - BellP
- Title means "Rain-colored Fireworks". Wow, so rare that I hear a Japanese traditional melody-inspired song in the rankings, but this is one! The intro is so lovely. The use of bass against the rather folk beats is a good touch and the chorus, while it might seem a bit monotonous is really pretty especially with the very subtle violins.

08. pianissimo (Hatsune Miku) - Marasy
- ↓04 I am so biased towards this song, I don't even... This song is also written for Clear's second album, Dearest II. I personally think this is better than the other Marasy song below because of the more dexterous piano parts. I'm such a sucker for piano-intense songs ;;.

09. Totte Oki no Love (Hatsune Miku) - yukkedoluce
- I have...an inkling this title means "A Very Big Love"? SOBS. I was somehow expecting this to be a song similar to Icchoume, but Yukke managed to surprise us again with a harder, faster, more guitar-rich song almost similar to Kimi ga Suki (but with much more intensity). His Miku is still very high, but I think she matches the beat quite well. This video is so pink.

10. Tsuki Keshiki (Hatsune Miku) - Marasy
- Title means "Moonlit Scenery" or something OTL. You might notice RyuuseiP in the credits, he is credited for additional lyrics. Anyway, as expected, Marasy comes up with another beautiful ballad laced with his amazing piano-playing.

11. Kimi Omoi, Kataomoi (GUMI) - Takanon
- ↓08 Title means "Thoughts of you, Unrequited Love".

12. Shakaishugi★Darling (Kagamine Rin) - ZanioP
- Title means "Socialist Darling". And ZanioP said this is what happens when Rin reads Karl Marx's books. The song itself is a surprisingly calming combination of piano music, muffled electronic beats that are somehow a bit sambaish. Even Rin herself sounds a bit muffled, sounding actually sweet instead of her usual strong voice. And now I will fill this comment about my jealous of my co-mod [personal profile] stephieku meeting Zaneeds XDDD.

13. Kimi Nashi Vision (KulfiQ)
- ↑02 Title means "Vision Without You"

14. Matryoshka (Hatsune Miku x GUMI) - hachi
- ↑18

15. Ama no Jaku (GUMI) - 164
- ↓09

16.Happy End Gretel (Hatsune Miku) - KulfiQ
- I was wondering when this'll come up XD;. The beat is very much like KulfiQ's other works, with just slight variations (those drums are so awesome!!), but somehow I think Miku sounds a bit clearer in this song. Did KulfiQ just level up a bit in tuning? XD The art is a bit mmmmdnw for me, but I guess it is a come-on XD.

17. Happy Synthesizer (Megurine Luka x GUMI) - Easypop
- ↓14

18. Innocent Scene (Hatsune Miku Dark) - AaruP/Rockman
- Oh my, I like the intro so much ;_;. You have to wear earphones while listening to this song. The song is a ballad with a gentle beat, actually kind of similar to s10rw's works (and some more), but with very very subtle melody escalating into a loud chorus. I just have a bit of awkward feeling towards Miku. She's tuned perfectly, but somehow she seems too loud in the stanzas and too soft in the chorus.

19. Gaikotsu Gakudan to Lilia (Hatsune Miku) - Tohma
- ↓01 Title means "Lilia and the Skeleton Band".

20. Minus Password (Hatsune Miku) - Nekomushi
- I haven't even looked at the song while the ranking is running when I heard Miku sing this song and I instantly recognized Nekomushi's style XD;. Anyway, this song has a beat similar to Kurikaeshi Hitotsubu (just a bit, especially at the chorus). Miku's voice (tuned the Nekomushi way) is a bit drowned beneath sharp guitars, but she doesn't soften a bit, creating a really good mix of sharpness (of the guitar) and shaky but gentle Miku.

21. Things (Hatsune Miku) - Tatite
- This musical style reminds me of another P but I can't remember D: Anyway, this is a ballad with heavy guitar music (like the beats are pressing down on the song) and breathy Miku, which is kind of a good combination.

22. Usotsuki (Hatsune Miku) - Tsunamaru
- ↓19 Title means "Liar".

23. Unhappy Refrain (Hatsune Miku) - wowaka
- ↓15

24. Suisou Catharsis (Kagamine Rin) - YuchaP
- ↓03 Title means "A Sea Burial's Catharsis".

25. Mozaik Role (GUMI) - DECO*27
- ↓20

26. Enclosure (Kagamine Rin and Len) - Dios/SignalP
- ↓05

27. Liar Zone (Hatsune Miku) - REO
- My first thought with this song is "what strong, wonderful guitar-playing *_*". As you might guess, this is a hard rock song full of fierce guitars and high-pitched Miku, which seems to be the usual among popular rockish songs.

28. Labyrinth (Kamui Gakupo) - Pokota
- This is like a dream collab, don't you think? Like Pokota's choice of covers, this song is upbeat and rockish laced with an ethereal feel. Pokota's Gakupo is tuned high and smooth, quite good, actually!

29. Nijiiro no Kasa (GUMI) - KonataP
- Title means "Iris (Rainbow-colored) Umbrella" which is really obvious in the art :D. This one is a cute electropop song, somehow a bit similar to Junky and Easypop music, but tamer and with more dominant vocals against the beats. I appreciate the nice combination of bass against the sharp electronic beats.

30. Wakannaiyo (GUMI) - EcchiP
- Title means "I don't know". This is a hard rock song with some really distinct bass and drumming. I expected GUMI to come strongly, but instead she sounds almost breathless. It is a good effect, I guess, because a strong voice against these guitars might clash really badly. GUMI can also sing very high, surprisingly!

Pickup: OveR Re/writE (Kagamine Rin) - KyotnP

ED: Glisten (KAITO) - GotsfruitsP

History
1. Wonderland to Shitsuji no Uta (Hatsune Miku) - hachi
2. glow (Hatsune Miku Dark) - keeno
3. Kuuchuu Aquarium (Hatsune Miku) - 40mP
4. Mask of Hannya (Kagamine Rin and Len) - koushirou
5. Houkai Utahime -disruptive diva- (Hatsune Miku) - MachigeritaP

Personal favorites from this week includes Majou (1), Futari de (2), Ame Iro Hanabi (7), pianissimo (8), Totte Oki Love (9), Shakaishugi★Darling (12), and Innocent Scene (18). You know it's kinda useless that I'm listing my favorites when they compose more than half of the rankings ^^;;;.
