Weekly Vocaloid Ranking #178 (February 21 - 28, 2011)

Today's week has a lot of movements, few songs have decided to do a comeback and take one rank up at a time, while a lot more had decided it's time for them to zoom down. Which leaves us with new songs in the upper rankings, all of them worth checking out! I apologize for the lack of good descriptions, as I'm running out of time ^^;.

↑# - the song moved up from a previous top 30 rank
↓# - song moved down from a previous top 30 rank
- song is a re-entry to the top 30 rankings

The first half of 2010 SP ranking (KAITO part) can be found here. For an intro on the SP ranking, please refer to the Miku compilation!

KAITO's compilation has 70 songs.

Since all of them are KAITO songs, I'll just type the song, composer, and additional Vocaloids used if there are any.

The last one for this year, this is our third list of songs Vocaloid producers sang. They can be self-covers, covers of other songs or original songs altogether. You might be familiar with some of them as they appeared in the utattemita ranking.

Quite a predictable ranking this week. Not much is new, too ^^;. But still, the few new ones are really lovely, please do check them out.

For a proper intro, please visit the Miku compilation post :). Kaito has even lesser songs than GUMI, with only 70 songs in the ranking :(. Still, that doesn't mean they aren't amazing :).

So far, this and the annual rankings are the only ones I type in reverse order (from 100-1) so that it'd be more exciting :). If you want me to do the midyear/annual rankings in the traditional way (the 1-xx order), just tell me :).

You might notice that some of the titles/P names are still in Japanese. It's because I'm not sure how to romanize them correctly.

A little earlier than usual, because I have an avalanche of paperwork due :). This is one of my favorite producers, so I was excited to spotlight him/her.

EBOT

mylist | piapro

Ebot (pronounced Ebo) is one of the producers I really like even though I do not know anything about them. Ebot only has his piapro and mylist published in his blurbs. I do not know if he has a blog or a twitter or any website he's active in. Nevertheless, Ebot's works are close to my heart, so I think he deserves a spotlight here.

He/she specializes in tuning KAITO, I've never seen him/her use any other Vocaloid. One striking feature of Ebot's songs is that KAITO does not sound overdone. We all know KAITO tends to sound too nasal or unintelligible in some songs, but in Ebot's songs, he often sounds perfectly fine -- not human-like like Miku Append, Luka or GUMI, but above the usual KAITO standards, in my opinion. He also has the skill to make KAITO sing so terribly low without sounding bad.

Ebot's music borders between jazzy pop and ballads, aside from one song. What I like about his songs is how they sound so usual and simple, but in truth, he uses a myriad of sounds to form the melody. Take for example Mermaid, which jazzy tunes are formed by sax-like, piano-like and guitar-like sounds but the melody is so simple to follow. Then there's oracion, which has a quiet music-box melody but on a closer listen, you can hear chime-like sounds, piano, organ and drums. Of course, if we're talking about a beautiful myriad of sounds, we can't forget to talk about Ebot's Tsukiyukihana, which is one of the best KAITO songs out there in my opinion. The intro is enough to make anyone awed: the orchestra-like music, KAITO's wonderful tuning, as well as the heart-stopping violin solo. Ebot makes wonderful music with maximized use of instrument sounds coupled with skillful KAITO tuning.

It also pays to notice that his videos have amazing MVs. I find his MVs adorable, too :D.

Um, the post above was totally biased so I've used up all that I am to say here. Anyway, I do not have a favorite song from Ebot, basically because I love everything (like with Rerulili's works). They're just so diverse, you can't choose something you like best.
