Tsunamaru/つなまる

mylist | piapro

Tsunamaru (or Tunamaru) started upping his Vocaloid works in Nico Nico Douga sometime in 2009, but he releases songs slowly, so he only has around 5 up to this time. His producer name is MezameP/めざめP. You might know him from his recent hit Usotsuki.

Tsunamaru's songs are known to be rich in piano and light pop melodies that leave a soft, fluffy feeling in the ears. His songs range from fast, sweet pop to rich ballads, yet all of them have the same warm glow in them. His bass, drums and other heavy beats are often muffled under interesting piano playing in order to soften them, too. He also uses violin music sometimes.

He has used Hatsune Miku (and Hatsune Miku Sweet) as well as GUMI in his works. Both of them are tuned softly with hardly any sharpness in their voices. Often they are low-pitched and almost whispery, emphasizing the gentle aura of his songs. This is why despite the sad or conflicted themes in his songs, they always appear a bit cheerful if not cute.

sample songs
Usotsuki (Liar) - Hatsune Miku
Mocha - Hatsune Miku sweet
Sasai na Koto (A Trivial Thing) - GUMI
NIL no Sekai (A World of Nothingness) - Hatsune Miku x GUMI
Namekuji (Slug) - Hatsune Miku

I first got acquainted with Tsunamaru when I heard his beautiful song "Mocha". When I checked out his previous songs and followed the next ones, I found that I like how he tuned his vocaloids as well as how there always seems to be a soft glow in his songs. They're pretty to and, while sad most of the time, are easy to listen to. I can't really choose a favorite among his works, but I wish he'd make more songs along the vein of Mocha and Namekuji.

Apologies again for the lateness. If you've read the utaran, you already now my problems with my Internet. I just hijacked someone's net for a while so I can post this. Again, lack of witty comments and stuff :(.

This week's ranking only has a few new songs, but they're all wonderful. Most of the songs in the ranking are just movements from the previous week but there's a couple of surprising re-entries. Also, some of the songs in the higher ranks are from new and/or underappreciated producers so please look through them! :)

A lot of new wonderful songs this week, which is why some of the regulars are pushed off the rankings. But that's alright, because that means we have new stuff to loop, right?

For a proper intro, please read the Miku ranking here. You might be wondering why I jumped to the GUMI ranking. I'm playing favorites :D. ANYWAYYYY... GUMI only has 90 songs, so it's a little easier for me...I think.

So far, this and the annual rankings are the only ones I type in reverse order (from 100-1) so that it'd be more exciting :). If you want me to do the midyear/annual rankings in the traditional way (the 1-xx order), just tell me :).

You might notice that some of the titles/P names are still in Japanese. It's because I'm not sure how to romanize them correctly.
