Utaite Spotlight: Kushi

Kushi / Φ串Φ

mylist | community | blog

Kushi is a well-known singer in the Nico Nico Douga community, having started singing since 2007 and has been continuing to do so until now. She is also lesser known as a composer/lyricist for Team Aburitoro-don, a collab group that uploads Vocaloid songs. Outside the Vocaloid and Utattemita community, she also does covers of Sound Horizon songs. She also collabs with other composers to do indie and doujin works.

When Kushi uploaded her cover of Melt in 2007, her version gained quite a lot of attention which surprised her. Eventually she released more covers including another cover of Melt, this time arranged as a band edition. Her voice has a distinct 'roughness' which puts an edge in her covers. That combined with her wide range, made her well-loved and followed in the community.

Later on, she participated as a lyricist for Team Aburitoro-don and wrote for four songs, including the notorious Shinkirou no Janna. She also wrote the lyrics for Dasoku's song in the BL game Nessa no Rakuen.

You can watch Kushi sing live here.

I knew Kushi first as a composer and as a frequent guest in Dasoku's radio show sometime May 2009. She is quite a shy and quiet person, but has a good sense of humor. She has a lot of covers, although most of them are of really popular songs so she tends to get overshadowed a bit. Despite that, I like it when she sings more rockish songs as long as she doesn't overstrain her voice.
