Weekly Utattemita Ranking #122 (February 28-March 07, 2011)

This week's ranking has a lot of new stuff, despite the fact that some of the strong ones from the previous week are still hanging on, although most of those that had a huge rise last week have fallen just as fast today. There were some late-to-the-party bandwagoners of semi-old songs, quite a few parodies and possibly a new bandwagon song.

• This is kind of cute and creepy, the way a Sanhora song would make people feel. The narration added to the mystifying atmosphere.

• OMG I love this. I haven't heard a lot of covers for this song, but I think Mao nails the aura of the song perfectly.

• Yurin's getting better and better every upload. His voice is still a bit strained at high parts but he pulls off his notes nicely.

• Bis's voice is a bit edgy for this song, which I think is more appropriate for someone with fuller voices, but I guess he sounds okay ^^;.

• I haven't heard of this name before, but her rendition is pretty nice. Simply sung without any stylistics, it's adorable.

13. シンデレラシンドロームを歌ってみた　by向日葵

• Somehow I'm reminded a bit of Kushi in this lovely cover. Himawari's voice still sounds soothing, although the upbeat song released a stronger, more solid voice from her.

• Doubie is from Canada and this is her first upload in NND, which is an impressive rendition despite the fact that she cannot speak Japanese.

• Samfree joins the bandwagoning with his own slightly rockish rendition of 40mP's first GUMI song. The high notes O_O!





OVERALL WEEKLY RANKING

o1. ｢Mr.Music｣歌ってみた【栗瀬柿美黒民月】
• Mr. Music [collab]
• Vocaloid original by Rerulili, et. al.
• This is the utattemita version of Rerulili's latest Vocaloid collab. Singers are Kuripurin (Miku), Seriyu (Luka), Kakichoco (Miku Append), Vivienne (Rin), 96neko (Len), Wotamin (GUMI) and Tsukiha (Yuki). This is an instant hit, with all those utaite, not to mention a really really really catchy beat. I think the singers they chose fit the voices to a T, especially Vivienne who's the bouncy Rin (the cheeriness of LiveP's Rin is hard to sing, okay XD). Seriyu and Wotamin also sounded good (too bad there weren't enough singing lines!) I was most surprised with Tsukiha, who sounded adorable even in the English serifu.

• Never expected Tomohisa would cover this, but I guess it's inevitable XD;. Not sexy at all! But I definitely enjoyed the innocent, schoolboy aura coupled with Tomohisa's more forceful, more rockish approach at the song.

• Hanycham gives a bit of soul to the song with her deep voice, and it's a nice listen because it's a whole new style applied to one of the most-covered songs in utattemita. She reminded me of Amu's cover so much.

• This is pretty okay, although the chorus seems a bit weak and bland. Soraru's good at building up the song at the start, so it's a bit of a letdown when the chorus is weakened. Not his best cover, definitely, although his singing at the stanzas without autotune was so good.
