Mod Post!
Hey guys! This is one of those rare (not really) admin posts. But before that...
Okay, I know that some of the accounts are doubles of those who made DW accounts, but who cares, they still count :D. Just in case anyone missed, I have some codes for those who want to create dreamwidth accounts, either for personal blogging or for posting access in
ofurotaimu and
banaofurotaimu. If you're interested, feel free to send me a message here or in twitter with your e-mail address.
I have a few issues I'd like to clarify today so let's get on with it!
First is about the Vocaloid Ranking. Some of us know that sippotan, the guy who usually does the Vocaran, was affected by the earthquake in Japan, hence he's not able to make them for the past few weeks. I realized (late) that Iori, the one who does the monthly Vocaran, was the one who took over it. Because I'm kind of lame as well as busy with work, I missed three or so of the Vocarans. Puzzling is that no one seemed affected by the loss of the writeups. So, I'm wondering if you guys still read the Vocaran writeup. I know there are other sites which do writeups and some of you probably refer there. So I am not sure if you still want it here. If there's enough interest, I'll pick up the Vocaran this week and restart the writeups, but if people don't really care about it, then I guess I'll scrap it... Please tell me what you think!
Second is about some stuff I've been getting in twitter, tumblr, etc. This community was made with the purpose of showing respect and tribute to Nico singers and producers, hence all the public posts you see here are never (hopefully) something that might cause these people to take offense. That is why there are some things that are locked, including sensitive issues. Also, since we link this comm in Japanese sites and refer Japanese people here, we'd like them not to think that foreign fans are disrespectful and insensitive.
Therefore, I reiterate my request to PLEASE not ask publicly for downloads or pictures of utaite, namahousou stuff, etc. This community stands by the belief that posting utaite pictures (screencaps from locked namas, concerts, pictures from blogs), 'borrowing' fanart without credit and posting downloads publicly are rude and offensive to the ones who own those stuff. It's just that it's a bit ironic to say that this comm is all about respect and suddenly we're circulating stuff not meant to be shared around publicly. If you really, really need something, please DM me or e-mail me and I will try my best to help you out. But please not in public. I'm really sorry about that, but I stay by what this comm stands for. Thank you for understanding.
This last one is more of a personal peeve than anything. These past few months, I've found a lot of my translations here in ofurotaimu and in my personal journal reposted (in full or in quote) in various sites and forums (including Youtube videos) of different languages. Sometimes they're put in fanart and doujin/4komas. The main reason I spend time translating (interviews, namahousou) is that I want to share the fun with friends and other people in this fandom. So, I don't mind people feeling a bit TOO happy about it and using them. But seeing my translations in some other site and people are thanking the owner of that site for the translations makes melose trust in humanity sad. You know that feeling when you make this group project in school all by yourself and the teacher overly praises someone in your group who didn't even show up in your meetings? I'm sure every one of us knows the feeling of time and effort gone to waste.
My translations, guides, etc., may not be perfect but I did everything from scratch, sometimes even the transcription of the Japanese printed stuff (magazines/cd lyrics). It really sucks when I see myself quoted but not credited, I'm sure anyone feel the same. Even if it's just a sentence, I know my translations. To be honest there's really not that many people who know about Tourai's l33t gaming skills or Clear's fantasies while singing or Valshe's routine upon going home and translate them in the exactly the same wording and lame grammar as I did XD. I'm sure everyone wants to share something interesting they've found and that's okay! But I hope you'd somehow take the initiative to link back to or at least mention where you read it first. That'll also help attract more people into the fandom and into this comm, right?
I know no one asked me to translate things and I'm also to be blamed for posting publicly. So if the reposting keeps up, I'm afraid I'll have to lock everything in this community and in my personal journal. I'm sorry if this seems selfish and self-centered, but I've used up a lot ofoffice hours time transcribing, translating and posting. They might be riddled w/ errors, but if only for my effort, I'd like to have some sort of credit. Thank you for your consideration on this matter.
Aaaand mod!whining done. I'm so very sorry about that. I hope you don't feel like I'm some sort of a tyrant OTL. In the meantime, I'll be having a bit of a break next week so I might have a lot of time forspam updates and maintenance. Please look forward to them!
Comments here will be screened in case someone has concerns. If you want, feel free to message me in twitter too! (@fascinais). Thanks! <3
