Producer Spotlight: IntroP

Apologies if it's a day late, I was distracted yesterday by the Kagamine P Mei Ittemiro post OTL.

IntroP /イントロP

IntroP is one of the few popular female Vocaloid producers. She started her Vocaloid career mid-2008 and even though she uploads rarely, continues until now. Her name "IntroP" was taken from a typo of the katakana for "instrumental". Despite that, she fits her name well as she is also known for her uniquely beautiful song intros.

IntroP's music is heavily influenced by traditional Japanese music, and it shows in the instrument she uses as well as in the themes she conveys in her songs. Most of the time, her songs talk of adventures and myth-like situations, which she expresses with grandiose orchestraic music with interchanging pace and pitch. Her music can be likened to Ebot's rich and complex instrumentation and kaoling's ambitious and dreamy themes. It could be a reflection of her longing for her hometown which, as she said in one song, she left in order chase her dreams, and that one of the things that comforted her was Vocaloid. She also composed a song dedicated to her hometown, its legend and its scenery (titled "Susanowo"). Don't be fooled though, despite her traditionally-inclined music, she has sense of humor to make songs which are light-hearted and even humorously twisted at times.

Her main Vocaloid is KAITO and even though she has used Miku in some KAITO duets and in a couple of solos, she sticks to KAITO, probably because of his flexibility in terms of range and genre. Like Ebot, she has the skill of using KAITO's natural talent for singing traditional/ethnic songs. She tunes him liberally with a wide range from very, very low to screechingly high. While her tuning is not exemplary like other KAITO producers, her KAITO fits her brand of music well and the combination is just marvelous.

She does collaborations with other P's mostly to make the melody for their lyrics. She also draws, and the images in her earlier works were made by her. She also has a wonderful voice, as shown in her self-cover of Susanowo, where she showed her love once again for her hometown, showing in the video various attractions and adding descriptions to them.

She recently collaborated with other KAITO producers to compile probably one of the best albums of this year: AO, which is an album of KAITO singing songs with a traditional flavor. A sample of her track, Nefertem, can be heard here.

sample songs
Susanowo
Crazy Clown (w/ Miku)
Inaba no Shirousagi (The White Hare of Inaba)
Anata no Kuru no Ura ni Boku wa Naritai (I Want to be Under Your Shoe)
Yume Kake Uta (A Song Credited to a Dream)

nikki says:
I first learned of IntroP's wonderful music when I heard Terry's version of Yume Kake Uta. I looked up the original and I learned that IntroP made the song because she was inspired by the art (not the other way around!). She also provided the background vocals for the song. Curious, I listened to her other works and was forever taken by her musical style. No two songs of her are alike, because she uses different tempos and instruments in each of her works, not to mention the themes are extreme and can be about deception at one point, then tranquility, then being a masochist. Like Ebot and kaoling, she exerts a lot of effort into making her melodies as vivid and complicated as she can, and with her it's always a myriad of ethnic-y sounds melding into beautiful music + Kaito's voice. If you're into traditional stuff or into songs by Ebot, kaoling, Vocalotus or even some of HitoshizukuP's works, please give her a listen.

- asjdkawk main reason why I got addicted to introP a bit too fast ;; and the way she uses multiple instruments without it being sound scattered is really amazing!
