Producer Spotlight: 40mP

40mP

40mP (read as Yonjuu-metoruP) is one of the most popular, prolific hitmakers in the Vocaloid community. He is also known as one of the producers with most of the works approved in JOYSOUND. He was previously called PianicaP but in his release of Melody in the Sky, some people thought Miku's proportions in the video thumbnail was a bit large and started teasing her as 40m. Eventually, the name stuck to the producer himself and he acknowledged and used it up to this day.

40mP's musical style is poprock and rock ballads, with impressive use of band instruments (electric guitars, bass, drums, keyboards) in each of his songs. His works were often dubbed "gentle rock" because of their refreshing nature. His songs are easy to recognize because of the certain similarities in the guitar melodies as well as drum beats, despite sounding different altogether from each other. His songs are often upbeat, with cheerful rhythm and never sad, slow or emo in style.

He is also said to be a "seasonal" producer, composing songs often related to the seasons, like "Harenochi Sakura" for spring, "Futariboshi" for summer, "Wagamama" for autumn and "Kimiboshi" for winter.

40mP used to solely use Miku in his works, but he has recently taken to using GUMI, too. His Miku is often tuned low at the stanzas then high and solid at the choruses, with slight stops at the end of her lines which is distinct of 40mP's tuning. His GUMI, on the other hand, is tuned at a lower range with a certain breathiness, although he has yet to have a distinct tuning quality with her.

A very prolific producer, 40mP has released three albums, two of them major releases. He has also participated in countless compilations including EXIT TUNES (Supernovas, Vocalo-series, Season Collection, etc), Debutante IV, Vocaloid Love Songs, etc. He has also collabed with other producers, either in albums or songs, like DECO*27 and 164.

Aside from Vocaloid, he has also participated in composing works for utaite, like "Natsukoi Hanabi" with Chano for Panoram a Note album, "Deguchi no nai Sora" with Tourai for In a Graceful Sound album, and "Hoshi no Komori Uta" with Dasoku and Clear for Pointfive's Enhance album. Recently, he has also composed for major singer DAISYxDAISY.

His works aside, he was married last year to utaite Chano (who is also our utaite spotlight this week!) and they had recently reported that they are going to be parents in some months' time :).

sample works
Wagamama (Miku)
Sing My Love (Miku)
Kuuchuu Aquarium (Miku)
Futariboshi (GUMI x Miku)
Kimi no Te, Boku no Te (Miku)
Harenochi Sakura (GUMI)

nikki says
It's hard to remember when I started listening to 40mP, really, but I guess it is because of "Melody in the Sky" (add the fact that Clear covered this song). However, what really made me follow his works was his "Jenga", which up to now remains one of my favorite Miku songs. I think each of us has encountered many of his songs one way or another because of their sheer popularity, that it's easy to say that we "grew up" in this fandom with 40mP songs XD;. What I like in his songs is the lack of heavy, painful feelings in both the melody and lyrics. While some of his songs can be sad they don't feel deeply scarring like other sad Vocaloid songs. His songs are also relatively catchy and easy to sing, that you might find yourself humming to them.

And I think Chano and him are one of the cutest husband-wife I've ever known ;;. Congratulations to them.

Lol, I think I can't remember the first time I listened to his songs, but I still do until now. His songs are always in the first batch of songs that introduces people to vocaloid-dom or utattemita-dom.
I like Kiritorisen and Mousou Sketch the most among his works~

40mP ~ \o\ and oh wow, I've been reading his name wrongly. 8D; (forty-m-P)

I always remember that he's the 2nd Producer that I took notice of, and is still one of my favourite producers after all these times.
I like how he does his intros especially, since it was his intro that made me like Time Machine, Kimi no te, Boku no te, & Futariboshi.

My current favourites of his composes would be Futariboshi, Torinoko City & Mousou Sketch. ^^

Wish them the best for their baby ~ \o\

They do many such a cute couple ;;; Congratulations to them!!

I have a lot of favorite 40mp songs, they always make me happy when I listen to them :3 Wagamama was probably my first 40mp song, and back then I was such a Vocaloid noob, and it left quite an impression on me! My favorite song of it changes a lot... I guess my top 3 would be Futariboshi, Tokinoko City, and maybe Kuuchuu Aquarium.

I always wondered how he got his P name.. even thuogh it's yonjuu-meter P, i still think "forty-m-p" in my head XD. I also love the ㍍ symbol in his name.
