Happy 2nd Anniversary, GUMI!

HAPPY 2nd YEAR ANNIVERSARY, GUMI!

Two years ago on June 25/26, Megpoid/GUMI was released. Unlike Hatsune Miku, she was released by Internet Co. Ltd., the same company that released Gakupo. The official name of her program is MEGPOID. She was nicknamed GUMI as reference to her voicebank source, Nakajima Megumi. It is said that her program is officially named Megpoid, but her avatar is named GUMI, although the facts are blurry. Anyway, since it's easier to pronounce, GUMI, it stuck as her most-often used name.

GUMI is said to have a very realistic voice, but at first, no one seems to use her much due to her difficulty level. Slowly, though, she gained enough popularity and users that she's probably the second or third most-used Vocaloid today. We're even getting a GUMI/Megpoid extend!

Since GUMI is my most favorite Vocaloid, I felt compelled to make a pimp post as well as a spam post for her birthday. Under the cut are lists of songs which were popular during her release and during her 1st year anniversary. Of course, it won't be complete without a list of my own favorites.

When GUMI was released, a lot of popular Vocaloid producers started using her, but did not use her as their main Vocaloid. There were a lot of memorable first songs for GUMI when she was new, though, and most of these songs were compiled to become 12Stars, the first GUMI-centric compilation produced by Nem and BuzzG. These are some of the first GUMI songs in Nico Nico Douga. You might remember some of these songs as Vocaloid classics.

After a year, GUMI is still overshadowed by most Vocaloids and is not often used, although by this time, popular composers like buzzG, TokuP, DevilishP, Nem and NishizawasanP are starting to "try her out", inspiring others to do the same. Her first birthday matsuri does not have a lot of participants compared to say, the Kagamines or Miku (of course? XD) but that also means that most of releases using her are often remembered for their quality and variety. Here are some of her First Anniversary Matsuri Songs:

This year, I just checked the GUMI's second anniversary matsuri tag and it's very pleasing to see that the amount of celebratory submissions have doubled or tripled since last year. A lot of composers are also using GUMI recently, like DECO*27, Scop, Papiyon, hachi, etc. She's become very popular and with the release of GUMI Extend, she's bound to become even more. There are also two compilation CDs added to her name: EXIT TUNES Presents GUMIsm and EXIT TUNES Presents Gumitive.

As I said before, GUMI has been my favorite since her release. I started looking for songs sung by her mainly because I like Nakajima Megumi a lot and somehow it carried over. Now I kind of like GUMI more than Megu but anyway XD;. A lot of my favorites have already been listed above, but here are more of my favorites (LOL). Most of them are released last year or earlier. I'm mostly old-school when it comes to GUMI songs, but I'm sure you already know the newer ones anyway XD.

I'm sorry, i'm using mobile phone to online so i cant give the link OTL. Well, i've known Gumi since her release but i didnt notice too much. I've just listened to her songs like Omoide Kakera, Holography, Just a game...wow, her voice was amazing, it attracted me very much. I cant decrible my feeling for the first time i listend to her songs. Thank to her, i've known DevilishP, Takamatt. Finally, i just want to say : HAPPY BIRTHDAY GUMI!

How can i forget Nem's anniversary OTL. Yah, Nem...i've known him by Scissorhands 8D. My friend told me how he composed that song and it made me feel interested in it 8D. Thanks for his hard working so we can have a lot of songs to listen >w<b. Nem-san, i cant tell you more what i feel about you because i'm bad at both English and Japaness. Thanks for everything. Your music has changed my life. Lalala utau wo...HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

I like Tori no Uta, too :3. And well, they're popular because they're good, right? I also really like Juu Mensou not only for the music but for the concept and PV as well. And Just a Game, because gah I thought it was a sucky song and when the intro beat started I was all *__*

The Last Revolver is pretty nice! It kinda scared me for a bit but Machigerita's GUMI is even scarier ^^;. (Also, all the 40mP GUMI are so nice ;; whyyy, it was so hard to choose one).

I actually really like Nakajima Megumi's voice but the hatsune miku songs greatly outnumber the GUMI ones, so I tend to come across and like more of them I guess XD; So, I only know a few GUMI songs...and this post is a good chance for me to know more, yay. \o/

it's a gakupo and gumi duet. The song was originally sung by Luka and Len, but the same producer made a Gumi/Gakupo version later and I think it sounds really nice :)

I'm so glad she's grown so much in popularity, it's definitely the golden age of GUMI! It wasn't instant popularity, but now she's definitely cemented herself at the top. She's one of my favorite Vocaloids as well! I remembering listening to several of those first Gumi songs when she first came out, but I remember when I first fell in love with her voicebank with Yowamushi Mont Blanc. I have some sentimental attachments with that song.

Nakimushi Ensemble and Juu Mensou are big faves of mine too but those were mentioned a lot XD Yowamushi and Mozaik Role were Gumi's break through hits for me because I wasn't too sold on many Gumi songs before. It wasn't because I didn't like her voice bank, there weren't many songs that caught me (I didn't know much about producers back then). It was Gumi rock songs that made me love her because her voice really fit, versus Miku's. After that Gumi waves came I explored more songs with her :3

Yes, it's definitely good that there's a new version. I guess it's also good that they caught this artist sooner rather than later, so the producer didn't wind up having to pay after releasing merchandise.

I'll have to check out more of otetsu's works then... Oh, I like Child's Garden~ Clearly sometimes I need to pay better attention to producer names...
