Producer Spotlight: ArieP
ArieP / アリエP
mylist | community | piapro
ArieP is a fairly new Vocaloid producer, having started (quite successfully at that) sometime in 2010. His name came from his blurb in his first song, where he said "Arienee" (arienai, meaning "no chance at all"). He was first called ArienaiP and soon it evolved to its shortened form, ArieP. You might know him as the composer of the highly popular song Monocross Road.
As he is a new producer, he has released only a few songs and it's noticeable that he's still trying to find a genre he can flourish in. His first upload was sugary pop, followed by a eurobeat-infused dance track and eventually rock ballads and pop rock. Recently, however, he seems to have found his niche in upbeat rock and rock ballads. His songs are often filled with sharp guitar music in repetitive phrases, highlighted in an enriched solo bridge which shows his guitar prowess. His slower songs also has wonderful piano music, fast and subtle in the background but blends nicely with the bass and guitars. Most of his songs have a cheerful flavor, which means they're all a bit upbeat with a seemingly lifting feeling (think KuwagataP songs, but in a different approach). However, his songs mostly speak of regret, usually in love, and how it would be better if time turns back. Other themes of his songs include nostalgia and moving on.
ArieP has only used Miku in his works so far. His tuning is not yet distinctly his own and he changes a lot of his tuning techniques. His first works has Miku a bit whispery-breathy, with soft echoes. Recently, his Miku is a solid soprano, often really high pitched and sharp. This could be his tuning adjusting to his change in chosen genre. His Miku is notable for being able to holding long notes at the ends of lines without faltering or sounding short of notes.
Despite not being a season producer yet, ArieP has released his first doujin solo album called Mono x Road. He also forms the circle Sugar Brave with fellow producer InogashiraP, also known as Jigiru in the Utattemita world. You can buy his albums at Three! He also sings covers of his own songs and other's, like here where he sang a self-cover of Monocross Road.

It's funny that I first knew ArieP before he was even named. I really liked "Honoka" as it was gentle and catchy at the same time. Eventually, I learned of his name when I translated "Monocross Road", which is his most popular song to date. My favorite song by him, however, would have to be "Kawaranai Basho". The lyrics are pretty and so is the melody and the PV is just breathtakingly beautiful in a simple way. I like what I hear from him so far and I hope that he'll be releasing more songs, whether in genres he wanted to experiment in or in a genre he had settled comfortably in.
