Weekly Vocaloid Ranking # 224 (January 09 - 16, 2012)
Like with the Weekly Utaran, we have a lot of new songs this week in the Vocaloid ranking, including a few by producers which might be new to your ears, but totally worth checking out because they are amazing. I'll try to put comments on all the new stuff but I'm a bit pressed for time, so they might be lacking, sorry!

• From the wonderful producer of "Cyber Thunder Cyder" comes a VYduet. If you haven't learned from Cyber Thunder Cyder then let me warn you again that listening to EZFG songs can be severely hypnotizing. The beat is different and more rockish, but it's still catchy. VY2 sounds so goddamn ikemen.

• And of course, Orebanana will have to come up with this again after Kyary released her second song XD;. This time she used Rin and a bit more autotune, but that doesn't matter since it still sounds adorable. As usual, I like this more than the original ^^;.

• title means "Cold Hand". I like this so much! It's a showcase of overlapping melodies from trumpets, piano, bass, and electronic beats that melds into this one upbeat and catchy song, with Len's boyish voice to complete the set.

06. 【GUMI】ニビョウカン【PV付オリジナル曲】

• A rock song which is interesting in a way because I cannot pinpoint the rhythm/beat, with almost cryful high-pitched GUMI, this is one of the songs that leave me with the O_O face after listening to it, but it is a rather good listen once you get used to the eccentric beat and high GUMi.
07. 【巡音ルカ】 Pelagic fish 【オリジナル】

• MuryokuP drops his hard rock tendencies and tries his hand at this wonderfully elaborate piano-laced upbeat song. The violin mixed in with the beats sounds beautiful.
08. 【初音ミクが人間のように歌う】イージーデンス【ラップもする】

• lyrics by RIRE, music/arrangement by Mitchie M
• ↓01 A slower song this time from the maker of "Freely Tomorrow", this is another electronic disco song with eurobeat influences. It's not as catchy as the previous songs (or even the City Boy cover) because of its rhythm but it's still a wonderful listen. Props for that amazing tuning, by the way.

• ↓03 A rather enjoyable pop song with a really pretty PV. Rin actually sounds cute and adorably gentle, which is an interesting change from her usual sharp voice.
10. 【初音ミク】 シーラカンス 【オリジナルPV】

• More fishes in the ranking with monaca:factory's ambient-ish electropop number. The melody is purely electronic laced with stray piano melodies and Miku sounds gentle as always.

• MOAR Hitoshizuku means more lovely but rather dark-ish songs! This one has a full cast with Miku, Rin/Len, GUMI, Luka, Gakupo, MEIKO and KAITO—all in perfect blending against a classy but eccentric jazz rock ensemble.

• ↓05 Not a typical papiyon song because of the lack of elaborate piano music all throughout the song, it sounds more like an otetsu piece on the first listen. However, it's a really, really catchy song and is quite a good change of pace for papiyon.

• Title means "Flower of the Plateau". Not following mothy's line of strong fantasy rock pieces is this jazzy light rock song with Miku on high vocals against elegant piano and bass.

• The latest of niki's Lily masterpieces, BC is another emo-rock song but with a rather lighter melody that his previous works, not to mention a more powerful, higher-pitched Lily.

• I'm not used to hearing Kouhei compose a Rin/Len song with such a beat/theme, but I'm impressed. It's not hard rock as his previous works and is a rather uplifting melody with solid but adorable Rin and Len singing.

• I like the jazzy approach of the song, especially in the chorus. It's also rare to hear Luka sing at this range and it's a new but good change.

• Another beautiful masterpiece by HeavenzP, this is a rich rock ballad, heavy on guitars, keyboards and a lot of other sounds which makes it emotional, complete with whispery low Miku.

• Title means "Dreams and a Leafy Cherry Tree". Another P I'm not very familiar with, the melody is typical traditional/folk song but its simplicity with Miku's slightly soft tuning sounds ethereal and really lovely.

• Title means "Return Contact". It kind of reminds me of Scop because of the rising jazzy beats, but the lack of piano and more dominating guitars makes this melody Shikemoku's own. I also like the quirky way of tuning Miku, with a bit of lilting voice at the ends of her phrases.

• I don't dig Miku's voice here too much, I think it's too...solid and straightforward for the melody. The music itself, however, is really pretty. It's quite powerful and the guitars are to die for.

• Title means "Ensemble of Sighs". The PV is so...different. I'm interested in the way GUMI was tuned: she sounded really shaky but it actually complements the melody as well as the eccentric theme well.

Ahem. It did appear, though, something like 2 days later which is rather slow considering that Pelagic Fish was uploaded half a day later than Tsumetai Te and while I was looking for lyrics Pelagic Fish's was already up.
nanka itai nande itai doushite konna ni totemo itai...
LOL and Totemo Itai Itagaritai? Addicting. Very addicting. And surprisingly easier to sing than Cyber Thunder Cider, which is always a plus in my book. And VY2 *____* so cool, his voice.
