Weekly Vocaloid Ranking # 228 (February 6-13, 2012)

This ranking is very interesting because of three things: 1) a LOT of retain from the past ranking, which means there are only a few new ones; 2) the top three all being new songs from popular Ps; and 3) a looooot of returning videos, thanks to the MMD Cup, the new songs by the respective Ps and certain covers from the utattemita ranking.

• Everyone's bandwagon song in the utattemita side is this: kemu's new masterpiece which will now cause his other works to be pulled up. It starts off very similar to Jinsei Reset Button but is a bit faster but more game-ish music all throughout. I like the shaky but dexterous pitch control he has over GUMII's voice. The melody itself is...well, reminiscent of his other works (the chorus is totally like his previous songs) so it's a bit hard to describe.

• I've gotten a bit tired of buzzG's upbeat rock songs because they all kind of sound the same, even unintentionally XD;. I guess it's the style of him that doesn't change, but when you listen to his songs in a row, it becomes quite obvious. Thankfully, this is a great difference from his earlier works. The focus on piano is quite good since it creates an atmosphere different to his earlier songs where it's bam!guitar music. Still, the guitar work here is beautiful, as you can hear from the stanza, slowly ascending to a full-blown but muffled sharp playing in the chorus. The bass is also noticeable all throughout the song instead of the drums, and it creates an echoey feel.

• Title means "God is a Electric Guitar-playing Miser". I'm a sucker for clear voices but I really like how ManbouP tunes GUMI. She doesn't have the best diction but she sounds so girly and delicate. This is a more serious but still quite random song from the guy who made songs about stag beetles and fire extinguishers. The guitars are not as awesome as the previous songs, but the drums are wonderful! Warning: it gets crazy in the chorus XD.

• I don't know much about the MMD Cup but you notice videos from the MMD Cup have been invading the Vocaloid ranking as wellXD;. This one isn't as lovely in terms of melody but the animation as well as the concept is pretty interesting.

• Title means "Friends with Benefits", if I may put it in a cleaner way. Quite a catchy rock song with an impressive intro, if I might say so. I love the scratchy guitars! The title is a bit controversial, that is why Nanahosy didn't bother to put a GUMi image for the PV and settled for something else instead.

I wonder if the similarities in kemu's songs are intentional...

And so.. I learn another word for "Friends with Benefits" :'D I love how a lot of the comments were "[I clicked] because of the title".... (guilty of doing that)

I agree about Uramanbou's GUMI! I actually didn't get into his works until his GUMI songs, because I didn't like his Miku tuning much, but his GUMI tuning is so sweet and adorable >w< The guitars and percussion make "Kamisama wa Eleki Shusendo" catchy! And as usual I don't understand wtf's going on.

On a side note I didn't know YM did the jacket illustration for his major album O:

I'm not familiar with Akagami but his "SterCrew" is so pretty!! I love his tuning of GUMI, it's so smooth *_* Even though the song itself isn't particulary unique, I'm loving it a lot. I'm a sucker for songs like this XD
