Weekly Vocaran #169 (12/20-27, 2010)
Weekly Vocaloid Ranking #169 (December 20-27, 2010)
This week's ranking doesn't have as many new uploads as before but hey, 15 new songs in the ranking isn't bad. There are strong keepers (LOLwowakadecoetc) but the ones who rose to the top are new, lovely music definitely worth a listen. I apologize for the lateness of this post, though, as well, Christmas = parties = sleepless nights. Yup. Not to mention the Internet is amazingly slow during the holidays, isn't it? Anyway....
↑# - the song moved up from a previous top 30 rank
↓# - song moved down from a previous top 30 rank
↵ - song is a re-entry to the top 30 rankings

Songs are arranged from 1-30.
01. Migi Hidari (Hatsune Miku) - Koushirou/HikutsuP
- Title translates to "Left and Right". After Koushirou's wonderful Hijitsuzai Seishounen Kenzen, we get another lovely song from him. A pleasantly suave song with a hypnotizing PV, this song is reminiscent of wowaka's songs at first because of the fast phrasing, unique art and beat, but it's actually different since the tune is toned down to a less aggressive degree and the vocals are easier on the ears.
02. Black Gold (Megurine Luka) - otetsu
- My favorite of this week (lolbias) is from the Luka-kami himself. I was expecting the beat to be similar to his earlier popular works, but it's entirely different in a good way. As usual, the guitar melody is beautiful against Luka's smooth vocals.
03. Nakimushi Kareshi (Kagamine Len, Hatsune Miku) - Gom/FernandoP
- You might recognize Gom more as an utaite, but like with Luschka, Mitani Nana and others, he had also delved into making Vocaloid songs. This is a sweet ballad with very light guitar and piano melody.
04. Utautai no Uta (Hatsune Miku) - Nanou/HoehoeP
- This song is reminiscent of Hello/How Are You in terms of gentleness at first, but the song develops into a ringing melody very much like Sakura no Zenya. As usual, HoehoeP's song is strong but Miku's soft tuning gives it a certain warmth.
05. Kaise Kaise (MEIKO) - Yuukii (E.L.V.N.)
- ↑07
06. Monotone Corrector (GUMI) - ORYO
- Another very well done Vocarock song with GUMI. The first part is a bit confusing with all those short noises but the song immediately escalates into a drum-dominated rock melody.
07. ARCA (Hatsune Miku) - Treow
- The first things I noticed in this song are the violin melody and the snowflakes in the PV XD;. I don't usually like heavy beats like this in songs but it blended very well with the subdued piano music.
08. 6th (Megurine Luka) - MuryokuP
- From the composer of Flightless Bird and ///unknown/// is quite a different song this time, a rockish melody. But as usual with MuryokuP, not only his music is amazing, his Luka tuning is superb, too.
09. Jibun Inch Monitor (Hatsune Miku) - 164
- Not sure about the English translation, if it's incorrect please enlighten me. A rock ballad that starts off trancelike at first before erupting into a myriad of guitars and drums against Miku's high voice. I haven't heard from 164 in a while so this song is a real treat.
10. Isshu no Pokemon Ieru no ka! (Gachapoid x Hatsune Miku) - collab
- ↓01
11. Ohime-sama ni Naritai no! (Kagamine Rin) - OSTER Project
- OSTER's usual jazzy melody has been laced with crack in this really interesting song. All the wonderful cliches of being a princess is in here and the art depicting them are really pretty so it's a lot of fun to watch. My favorite part was the alpaca....
12. Matryoshka (GUMI x Hatsune Miku) - hachi
- ↑14
13. Mozaik Role (GUMI) - DECO*27
- keep
14. Kishidou ~Anime PV~ (Kagamine Len/Rin x Valshe) - ShuujinP
- Title translates to "Chivalry". Valshe provided the speaking voices in the narrative parts as well as the singing at the last parts, although most of the song is Len's. As with ShuujinP's works, this is grandiose and dramatic, with violins and pianos and resounding guitars. The anime PV adds to the emotion although...it's a bit long at 8 minutes.
15. Re: (Hatsune Miku) - nana
- Nana delivers a really nice ballad (rock ballad?) with a whispery Miku on the vocals.
16. Trees in Our Homeland (Hatsune Miku) - ryuryu
- A rather grand song from the composer of Tachycardia last month. The melody is very gentle with solid beats and Miku's voice is ringing throughout the song, but surprisingly, they blend well to make a dramatic, warm song.
17. Ameto (Hatsune Miku) - whoo
- I was pretty excited when this was uploaded. Very pretty lazy guitar and hymn-like mlody against Miku's echoey voice, a whoo staple, I think. Definitely one of my favorites in this ranking.
18. Poker Face (GUMI) - Yucha
- ↓17
19. Christmas Chuushi no Oshirase (Hatsune Miku) - cerofoat
- ↵ Way back from 2007 complete with Hachune Miku leek-flipping.
20. Snow Quartz (Megurine Luka) - SeikoP
- ↓10
21. World's End Dancehall (Hatsune Miku x Megurine Luka) - wowaka
- ↑24
22. No. 0021 ASH (Akita Neru, Yowane Haku) - OwataP
- OwataP comes up again with talkloid crack, this time with a manzai-like dialogue between Neru and Haku (who forms the unit ASH) XD.
23. Mukashi Mukashi no Kyou no Boku (Hatsune Miku) - DECO*27 x ShijigenP
- ↓11
24. Check and Chase (Kagamine Rin) - YoishoP
- I actually do not know if this is the correct translation for the song, if I'm mistaken, please do correct me. This song has rockish beats with high-pitched Rin on vocals. Rin sounds a bit strained, but the guitar music is pretty cool.
25. Falsetto (Hatsune Miku) - miksolodyne-ts
- It's been a while since I've heard from TS! This song has a persisting lovely piano melody with subtle bass that's easy on the ears. The electric guitars and drums (which sound so good when you're in earphones) comes out after the chorus and adds a rising climax to the song. The PV is also pretty with smooth animation.
26. Yowamushi Montblanc (GUMI) - DECO*27
- keep
27. Seiten Drops (Kagamine Rin) - Yucha
- ↓3
28. Christmas Tree wo Kiritaose! -full ver- (Hatsune Miku) - DeadballP
- ↓2
29. Happy Synthesizer (GUMI x Megurine Luka) - EasyPop
- ↓25
30. Dancing☆Samurai (Big Al, Gakupo) - mathru, BucchigiriP
- SOBS I lol'd at "Harakiri yourself". Big Al's tuning was pretty interesting XD.
history
1. Electric Love (Hatsune Miku) - HachioujiP
2. Love Atomic Transfer (Hatsune Miku) - papiyon
3. Magical Nuko LenLen (Kagamine Len) - OwataP
4. Koibito no Rangge (Hatsune Miku) - Hachi
5. Bad Apple (Meiko cover) - IGASIO
pickup
• This love will not be successful (Hatsune Miku) - baker
• Eyes in the Night (Kagamine Rin) - Shunta, Kumi Ozawa, Futuristix
I keep forgetting to list my favorites, but here's my picks of the week: Black Gold (#2), Utautai no Uta (#4), ARCA (#7), Jibun Inch Monitor (#9), Trees in Our Homeland (#16) and Ameto (#17).
