Producer Spotlight: scop / すこっぷ

scop / すこっぷ

Scop is one of my favorite Vocaloid producers (at the moment) and he will be celebrating his birthday next month, so I decided to make a spotlight on him first :3.

Scop is a prolific Vocaloid producer, having uploaded a lot of songs since his debut in 2008. His first big break is with his hit Lowry's Room and since then he had released a lot of songs which became extremely popular. Most of his songs have sad or bitterweet messages hidden behind the beautiful music.

He is known for making songs with wonderfully unique piano melodies. His earlier works were more on upbeat electropop, as well as piano ballads. Recently, he has started leaning towards upbeat jazz led by piano (and sometimes violins). He also has some songs bordering on alternative rock, but they're still dominated with piano music combined with crisp electric guitar and very subtle drums.

Scop uses solely Hatsune Miku for his works. His tuning varied a little over time. His first songs has Miku singing in a slightly muffled, faded voice that are shaky at times. As he progressed, his Miku slowly turned crisper and more solid. His Miku has interesting "stops", usually at the end of each line, giving his songs a unique identity. Aside from Miku, a lot of utaite also cover his songs despite their higher-than-normal pitch.

Scop holds regular namahousou and also sings covers of other people's songs. He has a really cute voice ;).

On a more personal note, Scop dreams of having a music-related career and always hopes that his songs will come to touch people's hearts, even if they're a little sad (and morbid at times). He likes bitter and sweet things, but he does not drink. He said in Twitter that he cannot play the piano at all, but he can do so with a mouse ^^;. And if what he said in Twitter (again) is true, it will be his birthday this March 5. :) Don't forget to greet!

I first knew of scop when I listened to "Lowry's Room" (and Seriyu's awesome cover of it). The next time I encountered his work was with "Internet City" and by then I wondered why he would make such sad lyrics with his music. Despite listening to his ballads a lot, I love his jazz works the most. My favorite will always be "Yubikiri", although his recent "Top Secret", "Raindrops", and "eve*2" are really awesome, too. His music aside, I like reading his tweets because he likes complaining about cleaning his room and talking of his daydreams XD.

Scop!!! I love his songs so much >< My favorite is also Yubikiri, but all the songs I've heard from his are wonderful. His voice is so gentle and soft, it's a shame I haven't caught his namahousou in a while :(

I'm not that into Producers to be honest so I didn't know scop was the one who did Yukibiri. I just LOVE that song to bits and pieces! *A* Now that I know who did that song, I'm gonna look more into his works.

I'm curious. Lol, I haven't checked the older entries yet so... Yeah. Have you featured Yuyoyuppe already? o3o

Actually I'm much into his recent works more than his earlier songs, and Marionette Syndrome is so good that it almost killed me the first time listened. Top Secret, Domino Taoshi and seventeen are really great too. His lyrics are always beautiful and meaningful, which fits very well his Miku's voice.
Oh and i must say i was drooling crazily when i listened to his housou, because his voice was so cute (and sounded somewhat really, really similar to AVTechNO!'s voice, which really consoles me while i can't hear Abe san's voice these days...) His housou is always interesting too.
Thanks for the spotlight!

Yubikiri was my first song from scop and from that day on, I love his works unconditionally! The thing I love of his works is that there's that thing that can makes me identify them. The unique touch that his works have. The way he makes them, the melodies agree with my taste.
His works are one the ones that I usually go out of my way to hunt for the translation of the lyrics and I'm never disappointed learning them. It's really cool how like you said Nikki, make such sad lyrics with his music.
I'm surprised to know he don't play the piano irl... that's... amazing!

/SPEW I never knew he made covers! ARGH they are so lovely to listen to!

Yayyy Scop!! (*´ω`)♪ Piano and bass kami!! XD

I'm absolutely in love with his Marionette Syndrome, and Domino taoshi is making its way into my favourites too!

Recently, he has started leaning towards upbeat jazz led by piano (and sometimes violins)
Funnily enough, I recently started liking and listening to a lot more upbeat/jazzy styles of music (which may be the reason on the reasons why I like scop so much now!) ^_^;

His voice sorta reminds me of yuyoyuppe XD so cute //////// I really love his cover of guriguri megane{ry *O* so moe/// (*´∀`*)

He said in Twitter that he cannot play the piano at all, but he can do so with a mouse ^^;
Wow.. I would have never thought that he couldnt play piano;;; since the piano parts he writes are so amazing ♪~(゚ω゚;)

And its 5th of March today! Happy Birthday Scop!!!! すこっぷさん、誕生日おめでとうございます! \(^◇^)/

And thanks Nikki for writing this <3
