Weekly Vocaloid Ranking #143 (June 14-21, 2010)

This week's ranking is unbelievably screwed up for some reason. I don't know if it's because of some new releases, celebrations, or some sort of evil master plan. I was expecting a lot of GUMI in this ranking but it seems I've been disappointed :(. More thoughts below!

Anyway, those with blue arrows are the old songs. I'm wrote this while I was watching JPN vs PAR football so if there are any mistakesI overlooked, I'm so sorry D:.

↑# - the song moved up from a previous top 30 rank
↓# - song moved down from a previous top 30 rank
- song is a re-entry to the top 30 rankings

Songs are arranged from 1-30.

01. Gallows Bell (Hatsune Miku) - buzzG
- I have to agree this deserves to be number 1 this week. Such a lovely song, with lovely covers and lovely PV. While I prefer buzzG's Gumi works, I think this one is not inferior to them.

02. Candy Addict Full Course (Hatsune Miku) - MachigeritaP
- I've gotten used to Machige's eerie style of music, but sometimes I still get freaked out XD;. This one is one of the less scary ones, but still, the animation asflkhasdg

03. Heart Beats (Megurine Luka) - TES.
- This music style seems to be really popular recently. This song is just slightly upbeat from the other ones. It's good and Luka does not sound off despite being digitized.

04. World's End Dancehall (Hatsune Miku x Megurine Luka) - wowaka
- ↓02

05. One Call, Love Call (Megurine Luka) - Shomi
- ↑16

06. Eh? Aa, Sou (Hatsune Miku) - papiyon
- keep

07. Miyuki - WakotsuP
- A nice ballad with an interesting melody. The title fits the song's atmosphere as well as the art, imho.

08. Last Night, Good Night (Hatsune Miku) - kz
- There is quite an influx of old songs in this ranking, it's ridiculous. This one was probably pushed up because it's part of the Project Diva Arcade.

09. Dearest (GUMI) - yukiss
- This is a cover of Hamasaki Ayumi's "Dearest". It's quite unpolished, but GUMI sounds really nice! Almost human-like. This is also uploaded during the GUMI matsuri.

10. clock lock works (Hatsune Miku) - hachi
- I will stop counting returning oldies...

11. Yakimushi Ensemble (GUMI) - TOKOTOKO/NishizawasanP
- This song was uploaded for GUMI's birthday. It's a very nice ballad with non-invading but good guitar melody.

12. Noroi no Megane ~stray girl in her lenses (Kagamine Rin) - BucchigiriP
-

13. Megurihime Buyoukyoku (Megurine Luka) - No.D
-

14. Renai Bukatsudou Kiroku (Hatsune Miku) - KuchibashiP
- A new song with an upbeat, disco feel. Miku sounds too gentle for the sounds, but the beat is okay.

15. Bokura no 16-bit Sensou (GUMI) - Sasakure.UK
- As one of the most viewed GUMI songs ever, this is bound to re-enter for GUMI's birthday :).

16. Watashi wa Ningen Ja Nai Kara (Hatsune Miku) - DeadballP
- Old upload

17. Gokurakuchou - bird of paradise - (Kagamine Rin) - YuuyuP
- An old upload from 2008 comes back...for some reason.

18. Miracle Paint (Hatsune Miku) - OSTER Project
- This one must have been pushed up because of the update on the song list for Project Diva Arcade where this is listed.

19. Zenra Kaiga Love Letter (Kamui Gakupo, Kagamine Len) - BucchigiriP
- An old upload from 2008. I don't know why it's suddenly up.

20. Chu! Shite! (Kagamine Rin) - Dios/SignalP
- O_O? This, too. LOL.

21. Tenyuki no Ranbu (Hatsune Miku and Megurine Luka) - Ai$kon
- A return from nowhere because JOYSOUND has released its version for karaoke.

22. Hello (Hatsune Miku) - G3
- This is actually a cover of a song bycapsule. It's very catchy, not to mention it loops so you're trapped watching a dancing Miku forever.

23. Keep Only One Love (Hatsune Miku) - HachioujiP
- ↓04

24. Cross Crow (Hatsune Miku) - CROWWORD
- I think this is a good song save for the ringing echo in my ear when I listen to it a little loud. It's like the music is hollow somewhere but I can't place my finger on it.

25. Otona no Omocha (Kagamine Rin) - UtsuP
- ↓08

26. Amagasa Tojite (Kagamine Rin) - LamuneP
- This is a cute ballad although I have the feeling that Rin's resounding voice clashes with the melody? A little gentler tone would work I think, but it doesn't sound that bad.

27. Dancer in the Dark (Megurine Luka) - fatmanP x Hatsuko
- ↓03

28. Paradichlorobenzen (Kagamine Len) - OwataP
- ↵54 Welcome back o.o

29. ///unknown/// (Megurine Luka) - MuryokuP
- Another beautiful song from the one who made "Flightless Bird", this is slower laced with alternative rock melody. The piano background is good.

30. Yowamushi Montblanc (GUMI) - DECO*27
- - ↓24

Pickup
Sayonara Polaris (GUMI) - Nem
- Nem's first year anniversary as a producer coincides with GUMI's birthday, so this is some sort of double-celebration release. I wish this could've been higher since it's a beautiful song.
the cherry blossom front (GUMI) - , ikuP
- ending theme, quite a nice song, too, with low GUMI vocals

Okay, so, this ranking is really disappointing for me because I was looking forward to the GUMI works that will 'invade' the ranking. Instead we get a lot of old stuff and very few GUMI works (one of them a returnee). I'm not saying the old works are bad, it's just that I feel bad for those who contributed to the GUMI matsuri because most of the songs are beautiful! ^^;. I don't know what came over this ranking, but I hope next week will be better.

Anyway, I have a writeup of GUMI's birthday plus some of the songs (15 of them) uploaded during her birthday bash here, for those who wanted more GUMI in their lives :).

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who disappointment by the lack of Gumi... But what's with the old song return? Project Diva?

Oh god, Gokurakuchou. Excuse me while I recover from a nostalgia bomb. Half this list was a nostalgia bomb, even. I want to believe that this was trolling by 2ch, but one, they have better things to do than mess with viral video rankings, and two, the songs that re-entered are generally too good to be the result of trolling...

I was expecting more GUMI too, but hopefully we'll see that next week. Along with JBF WHICH ACTUALLY GOT BUMPED OUT THE WEEK BEFORE ITS ANNIVERSARY.

Gatekeepers really got knocked around this week.
