[Translation] Utattemoratta Vol. 1 Cast Interview

I kind of translated the Animate interview with clear, Dasoku, Pokota, ASK and Kettaro of the Utattemoratta Vol. 1 album. Please note these aren't accurate translations. I just got the gist of their answers and made sense of them /shot. Some of them are hard to understand, especially Pokota's (WALL OF TEXT that reaches out to your heart, etc) and ASK's (I think it's his way of speaking that's hard to read ;_;). So, please forgive me now for any mistakes in reading I might have made. Other than that, please enjoy? Small fonts are my very minimal comments, I really tried my best not to give LOLcomments on Dasoku's and Pokota's parts ^^;.

CLEAR

• What are your thoughts after the recording?
- Before the recording, I caught a cold and my throat felt painful, so it was recording has been hard for me. Since my throat hurts, I bought honey to drink; when I drank the honey, I got an upset stomach so I bought yogurt to eat. It has really been an unforgettable experience (LOL).

• What were your impressions when you first heard the original version of the songs you sang?
- In "No Logic", I immediately fell in love with the guitar intro and the lyrics. With "Shinkirou no Janna" I really love the ambiance of the song, but I thought it was hard to sing. In reality, it was really hard to sing.
(note: "Shinkirou no Janna" is like clear's "dream" song, aside from "Gokurakuchou". When Dasoku released his version of the song, he immediately tried singing it multiple times in his namahousou.)

• Please tell us your thoughts about your singing, the parts you liked, the parts that were difficult, etc.
- Is it alright to talk about "Shinkirou no Janna"? The tune has detailed intervals and it was hard (to sing). And it was really difficult to bring out the seductiveness of the song.
(Lies XD.)

• At what point did you think "I want people to listen to this!"
- I really had fun during the recording, so if (people) listen while imagining the atmosphere at the time, I will be happy.

• Could you tell us the story of how you started contributing your covers in that certain douga website?
- There was a certain collaboration that I watched before and I got inspired to submit my own works.
(note: We knew from clewota radio that this collab is actually something Utawa Sakura sang with someone :) )

• You have sang a lot of genres so far (e.g. ballad, rock). Do you have any secrets or knacks in singing them well?
- I want to know them, too (LOL).

• What are your goals from now on?
- To make a "clear" tag in the J-POP corner of CD stores!
(Isn't this about to happen? ^^;)

• To end this interview, please say something to the users.
- We have all presented the songs with our best so please listen to them if you like.

-----

DASOKU

• What are your thoughts after the recording?
- SO TIRING !

• What were your impressions when you first heard the original version of the songs you sang?
- When I first listened to "Squall" my first impression was "It was so cool!" With "Sweet's Beast", I asked myself if I even have the confidence to sing it (sweatdrop).

• Please tell us your thoughts about your singing, the parts you liked, the parts that were difficult, etc.
- With "Squall" it was comfortable to sing, so I was satisfied with it. With "Sweet's Beast", it is entirely difficult that I was frustrated many times (LOL).

• At what point did you think "I want people to listen to this!"
- With "Squall", because it's not usual for me to sing with band sounds. With "Sweet's Beast", because I felt I exerted a lot of effort in it. And there are also some serifu I don't usually say, so if people would want to hear it...

• Could you tell us the story of why you started contributing your covers in that certain douga website?
- Because the time has come.
(w-what, dasoku ^^;;)

• You have sang a lot of genres so far (e.g. ballad, rock). Do you have any secrets or knacks in singing them well?
- I just go with my instinct!

• What are your goals from now on?
- I believe that from now on, I'll continue to live a healthy, reclusive life.

• To end this interview, please say something to the users.
- Moka is really cute, Moka.

(--- I...Dasoku...never mind.)

POKOTA
(is so tl;dr T_T. please forgive any liberties I made.)

• What are your thoughts after the recording?
- Since I wasn't the one who chose the songs, it was really difficult. Particularly the "shout".
(note: I think he meant here the shout in "Guilty Verse".) The songs were really awesome, and I was a bit ashamed to be the one singing them, so we took quite some time in recording. Before, I used feel that I am singing (my best?) whenever I see to the recording from start to finish. But now it's more like "Are we really done for today?" whenever we reach the end. (LOL).
(note: because Pokota's answer is a WALL OF TEXT, I'm guessing the gist here. I think he means he's not satisfied w/ himself when he sang, unlike in other recordings.)

• What were your impressions when you first heard the original version of the songs you sang?
- I thought both were really cool, but they were hard to sing. There were dramatic changes in both mood and tune. I have no idea how to express the songs with gestures, like in live performances or broadcast. I know they're supposed to "sound cool" but how much or to what extent was difficult to figure out.

• Please tell us your thoughts about your singing, the parts you liked, the parts that were difficult, etc.
- I feel quite challenged with how I'm to carry the tune, what kind of emotion should I express and how I should convey them. I had my own interpretation of the song, and during the recording, I thought it'd be alright to just "sing the song in the manner that I think I should" but when I listened to it afterwards, I felt that I was not able to express the ideal in my mind. The hard part, I think, is the whole singing part (LOL).

• At what point did you think "I want people to listen to this!"
- There were some parts of the songs which seemingly changed depending on how I wanted to interpret them. I do not know how much of my expression would be transmitted, but I hope (people) will like what I sang and that my interpretation matches the lyrics and tune.

• Could you tell us the story of why you started contributing your covers in that certain douga website?
The same with what Dasoku-san said, "It's because it's time".

• You have sang a lot of genres so far (e.g. ballad, rock). Do you have any secrets or knacks in singing them well?
- I would want to hear something like that too (LOL). As for me, when I sing, I don't think that I should "sing with skill" but rather "I should be able to convey the message to as many people possible". In the end, I'm singing "words". If I don't understand them or how to convey them then it's not good. I think a song's important value is not how it is smoothly sung but how much of it is left in the hearts of the listeners.

• What are your goals from now on?
- Lately, my receding hairline is getting more dangerous, so I'd like to try Mashike
(....Mashike is a hair product for either making your hair thinner or thicker)

• To end this interview, please say something to the users.
- Recently, I had a heartburn after eating raw carrots. It was my first time experiencing that.
(I...see.)

---------

ASK
(ASK's way of talking throws me off. I'm so sorry for inconsistencies. Most of the time I just got the gist of his answers.)

• What are your thoughts after the recording?
- In order to not be scolded by fans of the original works, which are both exceedingly accomplished, I had to sing my best! Although there were some difficult parts, it was a rather congenial recording that I was glad to be part of it. Actually, during breaks the people here get a chance to chat a lot.

• What were your impressions when you first heard the original version of the songs you sang?
- With regards to "Kokyuu", I thought Gakupo sounds good, the meaning of the song is also nice and it's not like a Vocaloid song at all. The baseline is extremely erotic. Oh, very obscene. "Alice" on the other hand is a work with a very unique outlook. When I first heard it I went, "Ah, I love this so much", shot down in one blow. Hearing it calms me down.

• Please tell us your thoughts about your singing, the parts you liked, the parts that were difficult, etc.
- Both songs are powerful, and I constantly kept in mind that I have to follow the "worlds" depicted in the songs as much as possible. "Kokyuu" has persistent pitches that go up and down, furthermore, the sensuality of the song needs to be brought out so singing it was extremely difficult. "Alice", on the contrary is a song that does not need power and the need to modulate makes me feel like I'm a demon singing the song.

• At what point did you think "I want people to listen to this!"
- There are a lot, really, but definitely I will be happy if people listen to both of the songs. If someone dare comment in my way of singing and interpreting, "Ah, so ASK's image of the song is like this," that will make me feel happier.

• Could you tell us the story of why you started contributing your covers in that certain douga website?
- Before, I saw a video upload from another place and went, "Heh, there's a category like this." And really, just out of curiosity I went, "Well, first let's try this out," and submitted my first post. Nowadays, I often think, "How did it happen?"

• You have sang a lot of genres so far (e.g. ballad, rock). Do you have any secrets or knacks in singing them well?
- Honestly, I don't have anything to teach people. I'm sorry, but more than the genre of the song, etc. I think it's important to keep the song's value in mind when singing it.

• What are your goals from now on?
- In relation to genre, I like game-related works very much so I would like to do sing something in relation to game music. It's one of my secret dreams...w-what, anyone can dream!

• To end this interview, please say something to the users.
- Aside from myself, a lot of people of "their own colors" strongly carried and participated in this CD, I think you will surely enjoy this! It would be nice if we could leave something behind in your hearts after you listen to the CD.

KETTARO

• What are your thoughts after the recording?
- Both are songs I haven't sung before so it was refreshing. I had a good time singing. The songs were different in genre, with one ballad and another rock, so keeping the mood in mind was really important. "ES~" was really high to the point of death (LOL).

• What were your impressions when you first heard the original version of the songs you sang?
- In "Little Traveler" the piano melody was very beautiful, another one of Jimmythumb-sama's excellence. The part in the lyrics, "hibike" really resounded in my heart."ES~ dirty aspiration~" on the other hand was something new to me since I don't usually sing such kind of songs. It was awfully fresh for me. In order to sing it powerfully, I sang it with so much eagerness until my voice weathered.

• Please tell us your thoughts about your singing, the parts you liked, the parts that were difficult, etc.
- I actually didn't think of this while recording. That time I just relied on my feelings while singing and tried my best to bring out the song I feel to sing. Now that I think about it, I can't remember what's good or not. I think that if I'm to sing again, a different result will come out. All I remember is that singing both songs had been difficult (LOL).

• At what point did you think "I want people to listen to this!"
- I can't really tell for myself, but I guess experiencing the gap between the two songs might be pretty interesting. Since there's so much difference... (sweatdrop)

• Could you tell us the story of why you started contributing your covers in that certain douga website?
- I started by singing with a friend. I happened to listen to a singer and didn't know s/he was my childhood friend. That's how it started. I thought I wanted to do it, too and it looks so simple and interesting at that time.

• You have sang a lot of genres so far (e.g. ballad, rock). Do you have any secrets or knacks in singing them well?
- As expected, you have to listen to the original work constantly. Then formulate your own interpretation of the song and the way you want to sing it. From my experience, it has to start with gradually exploring songs you want to sing .

• What are your goals from now on?
- I don't really have an ambition of sorts. I am just happy that I get to participate with a lot of people in projects like this. I think the best goal for me is to improve by singing with one's might.

• To end this interview, please say something to the users.
- Everyone, this is Kettaro who gave such stiff comments and who is always indebted to everyone (LOL). Because of everyone's continuous support, I'm able to participate in this CD. Thank you very much. I hope that from here on, everyone will continue to support my poor ability to sing. (U´゚д゚`)<ッセイ!!

You can listen to voice messages and additional stuff (like handwritten messages!) here :D

The illustrations are so cute! I could even guess who was who correctly! 8D <- new fan

Before the recording, I caught a cold and my throat felt painful, so it was recording has been hard for me. Since my throat hurts, I bought honey to drink; when I drank the honey, I got an upset stomach so I bought yogurt to eat. It has really been an unforgettable experience (LOL).
I know lots of people have already commented on this but, oh clear. <3 And, now that I think about it, poor thing ;__;.

I believe that from now on, I'll continue to live a healthy, reclusive life.
LOLWHUT? XD And Moka <3

Lately, my receding hairline is getting more dangerous, so I'd like to try Mashike
LOL how old is Pokota anyway? Is he older than Dasoku? And wait a minute, that's not a goal =.=.

ASK sounds really ... educated/ sophisticated/ well-spoken. ...makes me feel like I'm a demon singing the song ...?? O_o In relation to genre, I like game-related works very much so I would like to do sing something in relation to game music. ... I cannot be the only one who thought of clear and Dasoku singing for BL games xD (although I'm pretty sure that's not what ASK meant <<)

KETTARO <3<3<3 (obvious bias is obvious, but he deserves more love. I rarely hear people talk about him in the international fandom :()
At what point did you think "I want people to listen to this!" -I can't really tell for myself <- yeah well, if all you can remember was that singing both songs had been difficult... <<
I started by singing with a friend. I happened to listen to a singer and didn't know s/he was my childhood friend. I want to know who!!! (stalkerish tendencies surface involuntarily) Everyone, this is Kettaro who gave such stiff comments and who is always indebted to everyone Was that a reference to the description whenever he uploads a video? Because he always starts off with 'いつもお世話になっております。けったろです' (I really should go check out the actual translation of the interviews even though I can't really read it ><)

Thank you so much for translating this and sharing it with us!! <3

Thank you for the translation! I burst out laughing at clear's misfortune. Poor guy.

Also I love Moka ;______; I swear that's one of the biggest reasons I watch Dasoku's namahousou. I ended up with more screencaps of Moka then Dasoku.

Does ASK's manner of speaking have to do where he's from, or just he just talk differently in general?
