[Translation] PointFive (.5) Animate Interview.
Translated the Pointfive interview in the Animate website here. I may have used excessive liberties in translating, and for that I apologize. Also because of that, please don't repost this anywhere else :). If anyone's interested, I transcribed and translated Select Me in onsenjikan here.
First, please tell us how Pointfive (.5) was formed.
PUPI: My co-director SunaP and I first started talking about doing something interesting with a group formed from popular singers in Nico Nico Douga. So far, there had only been compilations of covers by utaite in Nico Nico Douga, but there had been no fixed "groups" or "units". We thought that if we do something different, we might be able to break through Nico Nico Douga's tradition and be conspicuous. And so, Pointfive (.5) was born.
From PUPI's point of view, what made each of the PointFive members appealing to people?
PUPI: I think that by listening to them, one would instantly understand, but the main point that makes the group appealing is how their voice qualities are different from each other. With Dasoku, his high voice is fascinating, but the way his range travels from very low to high is his strongest point, I think. Also, his voice is sexy.
With Clear, his voice is very clear and his high pitch is excellent. Even if he's just singing a single word, you'll think "I want to enter that world." I think that's it's his best compelling quality.
And then Amu is probably the one with the highest range in the group. His range is so high and awfully wonderful even in lengthy parts, that it's almost similar to a woman's range. That is why he mostly sings the harmony in PointFive songs.
Mi-chan's voice is different from the rest as his voice is strongly rough and hoarse. So he effectively gives some sort of spice to the songs.
And then Asamaru, his charm lies in the way he sings songs effortlessly and naturally with a simple and amiable voice. The other singers have their own unique way of singing, but there needs to be someone who is able to simply sing the song's story, a realistic expression of the phrases in the song.

Clear: Occasionally, he scolds me with "Dame da yo (You can't do that)" but he has taught me a lot of things and allowed me to consult him on various things. He's like my sempai in life.
Amu: I would want to enter the 30s world like that. He's having so much fun with his life, I think that I, too, would want to be like Dasoku-san and look forward to enjoying my life to the fullest.
Mi-chan: Dasoku-san and I are apart in age by about ten years, but as I see it he's such a lovely person.
Asamaru: He is cool and has a great sense in fashion... Anyway, he is stylish in a lot of ways.

Dasoku: He is good at singing. He is someone who practices properly until he perfects the song so he absolutely becomes skillful. Therefore I...I hate practicing (LOL).
PUPI: Because Dasoku-san is Hanayama Kaoru, right?
Amu: Clear-san is a character you can never hate, right.
Mi-chan: He's a sempai and his singing is super awesome. Why is it that whenever I watch him do his thing, I wonder "Will he sing perfectly?" and my heart flutters. The viewers probably see him or he shows himself as someone who just sings normally, but actually, he is a mentally delicate person.
Clear: Because I get mental strain, don't I? I always think I won't do good so that I won't be disappointed afterwards.
Dasoku: Doesn't that mean that he's growing up on that part?
Mi-chan: But it's only by having bad experience pile up will you become a strong person.
Asamaru: I kind of have no idea, but he is the type of person who is mysteriously fascinating that you can't take his eyes off him.

PUPI: If we're talking about Amu-tan, it would be about his unrivaled love for cola. It's becoming his trademark now, his love for cola.
Dasoku: His daily provisions are nothing but cola, he's living a cola-filled life (LOL).
Clear: He's naturally a sexy person who hasn't forgotten his childlike ways. I don't have a sexy voice like him so I feel a bit envious.
Mi-chan: His high keys are really pretty so his voice is sometimes mistaken as a female voice. Now that we've met and I'm wondering how he's feminine somewhere, I think he's a guy with a sexy side.
Asamaru: He has a voice with a high range that I envy and I'd like to replace my voice with his. I thought, "Why don't I have this kind of voice?" It's really something to be envious about.

Dasoku: Mi-chan is not near my age so I think of him as a younger brother.
Clear: Mi-chan is also younger than me, but I don't really see him as a younger brother or a kouhai, but rather as a friend from the same club or something.
Amu: Mi-chan is that one person in class who is popular and mischievous but can is considerably tolerable.
Asamaru: I see Mi-chan as a superman. Anyway, I was surprised that he's really good at games!! Also, his songs really suits his looks.
PUPI: He's a meticulous person.
Mi-chan: I can't move on unless I completely do a certain thing.

Dasoku: A good singer and mixer. And person with knitted hat.
Clear: I really love Asamaru-san's singing voice. Most of all I think his voice and his acoustic guitar-playing complement each other well. Because my voice suits piano music more, I am a bit envious of his voice.
Amu: Me, too. I like it when Asamaru-san plays the guitar and then sings.
Mi-chan: At first, I had the impression that Marutan was a shy person. Now, I find it not so surprising anymore.
With regards to "Select Me" single
Asamaru: I do not have a lively personality. So this song's protagonist, who thinks, "I have a lot to say, but I cannot say it," I totally empathize with him. I remembered a lot of memories while singing the song and I felt that I poured my heart out in the song.
Mi-chan: At first while I was reading the song lyrics I thought, "Ahh, this bittersweet feeling is nice." When I sang I had made myself sound like "this kind of love". (LOL)
Amu: Me, too. Yeah. Aside from absorbing the song lyrics, I took care on how to make the melody sound as it should and match my voice to the lyrics.
Clear: After the chorus, there was an exchange part where we said "Aitsu ga suki nandarou" "Suki da yo", etc. As I sang I thought that, if it was me, I would cheer that someone on by saying "If you like her then tell her now!!" That part is like the "reinforcement mood".
How do you feel as the part of the one cheering the protagonist on?
Clear: I don't really have any experience on it but I guess I can cheer up the person by staying beside him.
Dasoku: "The autumn winds are dyed with love" as said in the lyrics. As the lyrics portray a certain facet, it would be nice if attention was paid to them while listening to the song.
What kind of music should be expected in "Select Me" as far as PointFive is concerned?
PUPI: The story being told in this song is very important. But the five persons singing this song have different variations of grasping the idea of "Select Me". Despite that, the song resounds with a single sentiment. I think that makes the interpretation interesting. I think it would be a fun listen because despite the single theme of the song, each singing voice conveys a unique pattern of emotion.

LOL they just sounded totally like them. Dasoku is lazy and cool as ever, Clear is such lovely delicate creature who always tries so hard and gives his best, Mi-chan is the youngest but still so manly, AMU is cute and adorable and Asamaru... LOL he's so shy and didn't thing high of him by any means. Boy with guitar~! /but not a word about Jack, well since he's just guest vocal, but still... XD just my little obsession/
