Weekly Vocaran #165 (11/22-11/29, 2010)
Weekly Vocaloid Ranking #165 (November 22-29, 2010)
Like with the utattemita ranking, this week's Vocaloid ranking is also good because of the influx of new songs, not to mention new producers :D. The top 10 are all new songs with the songs from the previous ranking pushed downwards D:. There are a lot of new people to check out so I hope you enjoy this ranking.
↑# - the song moved up from a previous top 30 rank
↓# - song moved down from a previous top 30 rank
↵ - song is a re-entry to the top 30 rankings

Songs are arranged from 1-30.
01. Mukashi Mukashi no Kyou no Boku (Hatsune Miku) - DECO*27 x ShijigenP
- Title translates to "Once Upon a Present Me". This song is the official theme of the Hatsune Miku 4Koma "Jitsuroku! Utahime-san" serialized in Weekly Young Jump.
02. Happy Synthesizer (GUMI x Megurine Luka) - EasyPop
- Technopop just like most of Easypop's songs, but I like this one a bit more than his other works because of the soft vocals against the bouncy background. It's a bit easier on the ears. I would say it's dangerously catchy, but a ll of Easypop's songs are catchy as hell XD.
03. Haito Atelierista nite (Kagamine Rin and Len) - cosMo
- Title translates to "Into Atelierista". cosMo comes up with an upbeat, cheerful, Christmassy (the bells!) song this time, with a really nice blend of carol-like music + electric guitars, not to mention well-tuned Len and Rin. Len just sounds a bit stuffy as always when they're given the autotuned effect.
04. One Step Layered (Hatsune Miku x Megurine Luka) - Last Note
- Last Note is a new Vocaloid producer and this is his/her first upload, which is very impressive not only because of the rank but the quality. The guitars are a given wonder but the orchestra-ish background melody is also lovely. Miku and Luka are both tuned beautifully, too. I'm reminded of Polyphonic Branch's style, but that could be just me.
05. Kimi ga Suki (Hatsune Miku) - Rerulili
- Title translates to "I love you". This is Rerulili's third ballad and as expected, is sad and pretty as always. Miku's clear tuning helps a lot in making the song endearing, coupled with the guitar and keyboard melody. This is not to be confused with Yukkedoluce's "Kimi ga Suki" which is more alternative and upbeat than this one.
06. Tómur (Hatsune Miku) - NioP
- Tómur means "empty" in Icelandic. NioP's newest song starts off with a piano intro gradually escalating into a richer tone with violin and guitar music. More than Miku's gentle, smooth tuning, I love the music very much. Very easy on the ears and strangely uplifting. It reminds me of Do As Infinity.
07. Sainou Sampler (Hatsune Miku) - koyori
- Title translates to "Talent Sampler" and I think this is indeed a sample of the composer's talent. I was surprised when I first listened to this song because Miku almost sounds real with the breathy voice and the slight curls in the middle of her phrasing. It's interesting that Miku's low, breathy voice complements the rock-ish beats very well without getting overwhelmed.
08. Fake or Fate? (Megurine Luka) - maya
- The art reminds me of Rider from Fate Stay Night w. Anyway, this is a beautiful rock (fantasy rock?) song by maya. The intro was sudden and surprising but prepares you for the sudden guitar onslaught onwards. Luka sounds higher than usual, but that's not a deterrent. Why am I reminded of Sound Horizon songs...
09. Matryoshka (GUMI x Hatsune Miku) - hachi
- keeper
10. (Parody) Toaru Nihon no Shikugyou Yakyuu (Nekomura Iroha) - Shishamo
- I don't...get the song, which can't be helped, but this is a baseball parody to the tune of "only My Railgun". Iroha sounds a bit stuffy but overall, it's okay ^^;.
11. Karappo no Mani Mani (Hatsune Miku) - PinocchioP
- Title translates to "At the Mercy of Emptiness". Rock-jazzy melody by PinocchioP which is quite similar to KuwagataP's Usotsuki no Merry-go-round, just with this one being a bit higher and creepier for some reason XD. Miku actually sounds good even at the high-pitched parts.
12. Catfood (Hatsune Miku) - doriko
- ↓01
13. HAKUMEI (VY1) - Onigashima
- ↓02
14. Himitsu Keisatsu (Hatsune Miku) - BuriruP
- ↓04
15. Mozaik Role (GUMI) - DECO*27
- ↓14
16. Dare ka ga Warau (Hatsune Miku) - donuts
- Title translates to "Someone laughs". Donuts is a new Vocaloid producer and this is his first work. So many new producers these days! Anyway, this is a nice rock ballad with smooth piano melody overlapping the guitars (in the chorus). Miku's tuning doesn't sound as "seasoned" as other P's of course, but it doesn't sound newbie-ish either.
17. World's End Dancehall (Hatsune Miku x Megurine Luka) - wowaka
- ↓16
18. Melody Line (Hatsune Miku) - SmileR
- ↓15
19. Magical Rin ☆☆☆LOVE♡ (Kagamine Rin) - UgoP
- ↓04
20. Gin no Kanojo (Kagamine Rin) - 150P
- ↓18
21. Distorted Princess (Hatsune Miku and Megurine Luka) - HachioujiP
- When I first saw this I thought the title sounded so familiar and it turned out it's also the title of Hachiouji's album. I don't know how to describe his songs, to be honest. I'm forever stumped in the world of electronica, club music, etc. But this is his usual electronica disco stuff but with Miku and Luka definitely sounding more amazing than his older works.
22. Oni Kanojo (Kagamine Rin) - FamirockP
- ↓19
23. Kurikaeshi Hitotsubu (Hatsune Miku) - NekomushiP
- ↑24
24. Net Game Haijin Sprechchor (Hatsune Miku) - Satsuki ga Tenkomouri
- keeper
25. Time Machine (Hatsune Miku) - SmileR
- After the success of "Melody Line", SmileR is back with another typical but adorable song. This is not to be confused with Time Machine (katakana) by 164 and 40mP.
26. Blackjack (Megurine Luka) - Yucha
- ↓20
27. Tatoeba, Koko de (Hatsune Miku) - orange/taisuke
- Title translates to "Here, for Example" (roughly). This song has a nice, typical beat but Miku sounds too autotuned...is there such a thing? It's not a bad listen, just a bit different from the rest. The PV is pretty nice.
28. Miraiza no Kousei (Hatsune Miku) - Hi-ton
- Title translates to "The Future's Star". A bit monotonous at the start because of the redundant guitars and Miku's flat voice, but as the song progresses, both gain momentum to a rather good chorus. Generally, the song is pretty. It just takes a long time to build up.
29. Telepathy (GUMI x Gakupo) - ArukaP
- It's been a while since I heard a duet by these two. M@satoshi is also now ArukaP XD. The beat reminds me of Junky. Although GUMI sounds a bit monotonous at the start, Gakupo starts backing her up and things get interesting (in beat and blending). Then the song smoothly transforms into a fun cheery song.
30. Jinkan Shikkaku (Kagamine Rin/Len) - Neru
- Title translates to "Human Being Elimination". The song might surprise you for a bit because it has a music box intro and suddenly it erupts into MyGodP-ish rock. Len sounds really good, steady voice even when insanely high. By the way, this is also Neru's maiden work.
