Welcome to ofurotaimu ♨.

This community is for sharing and talking about Vocaloid and Utattemita personalities/works. This community is started because a small number of my friends and I have been into Vocaloid and Utattemita so much recently, but we didn't want to spam our own LJs with embeds, lyrics and stuff. Since we're into them so much, why not make a comm so other people can join in the fun? And thus, ofurotaimu is born ♥.

None of us are experts in these two fandoms but I think that makes this community a good learning place for all of us. It'll be fun stalking gathering knowledge together, right? 8D

Why is this community named ofurotaimu? Well, it's a long story. We'll get to that later ^^;.


That said, let me go to the difficult part of this post: What is this Vocaloid/Utattemita community for? I absolutely have no idea! But these will probably the ones you will see:

• artist/composer/song spotlight
• random video + download (once a day)
• translations (random)

The comm is still in moderated posting so for now, I'm the only one who can post ;~;? Maybe later we could do a weekly theme and people can post about it? :3 I'm not yet sure how we'll go about this, but we'll manage :D.


Anyway, whatever we do with this comm, I'm sure we'll all enjoy :D♥.

VOCALOID

Vocaloid is a software that synthesizes lyrics to a melody. Basically, one composes music using a separate program. Then a MIDI file or the notes and tempo themselves are input into the VOCALOID program. The Vocaloid will then "sing" the words and they can be adjusted according to the composer's liking.

There are different voice banks for each release of Vocaloid software. Aside from the official Japanese releases (Meiko, Kaito, Miku, Rin/Len, Luka, Gackpoid and Megpoid), there are also the USA releases as well as the fanmade ones (UTAU). You can read more about them here.


NICONICO DOUGA UTATTEMITA

Utattemita is a category in Nico Nico Douga wherein people upload their own renditions/covers of songs, whether they are Vocaloid, anime or J-pop songs. Some of these people do lives, release doujin CDs (released in conventions) or go professional (Gazelle => nagi). Some of these amateur singers have received popularity enough to have communities (mixi, nico) and radio shows.

Nicovideo is like Japan's Youtube, although you cannot watch videos in it without registering. I won't post a guide on how to register on Nicovideo since a lot of sites have already covered the how-to amazingly. Here and here are good guides on how to register to Nicovideo.
