Weekly Utattemita Ranking # 116 (January 17-24, 2011)

This week is awesome because there are many, many wonderful covers from people we all know and love. The new number one caused a lot of songs from the same singer to return to the ranking. Some of the songs I expected to stay dropped out while some I didn't expect to excel rose far above others. I'm pleasantly surprised with some, so let's get started with this week.

• Every time I see Yurin's name I had to remind myself that he's a guy ^^; Anyway, this one is an okay cover, with MARCO in guitars. Just that Kano and Yurin seem to be trying to drown each other, which is not good.

• Bis is slowly going through covering all the eccentric songs this year, this one not an exception. It's amazing how he uploads so many in such a short time, all of them in good quality, too!

• Kaito singing a KAITO original XD; Despite the pun, it's a pretty good cover! TBH, the songs I kned Kaito from were all crack, so it's kind of nice to see him uploading a lot of serious (?) covers.

• I loved Tonighted's jazzy cover of Yubikiri, and since this one has a similar melody, he totally nailed it, too.

• Toriko's my new favorite when it comes to singing difficult, fast-paced rockish songs with strong emotions. This one is honestly not as good as her MyGodP cover or Kurikaeshi Hitotsubu, but her clear singing is still a nice listen.

• When I first saw the names, I'd expected this would be lovely, since both of their ballad voices are wonderful. I wasn't disappointed.

• Ryoukun has a knack for choosing popular songs and singing them without getting drowned under the bandwagoning. This is a pretty straightforward cover of the bandwagon song, but it's charming in a way. LOL-ing at the huge "AH!" in the blurb.

11. ハッピーシンセサイザ 歌ってみた * いえねこ

• A very cute cover which reminds me of Kano in terms of gentle loli-ness. I don't know the singer yet, but she sounds nice.

• This combo is a bit new to me (I'm too used to Keysuke and Yoru), but they sound good together.

• LIQU@'s voice is wonderful, but she rendered this song a bit too high, so she sounds a little strained at the chorus.

• Well, this is really a surprise! I liked this cover and I like both Wotamin and TaMu, but I didn't expect their cover to be such a hit XD;. Both have wonderful voices and the blending is okay, just needing a bit of work on the high parts. Of course, this is just coming from someone who is terribly biased. Bottom line is, it's a very cute cover XD.

• Isn't it amazing how you can hear covers of the same song and not get tired of it because the styles and voices are all different (despite fitting the song well?). I never expected REN to sing this because the song is too jazzy/gentle for him, but he actually managed to pull it off!

• It seems Domino Effect is the new bandwagon song this week! Kuripurin's cover is cute and gentle compared to the rest, so it's a refreshing listen.
