Weekly Vocaloid Ranking #137 (May 10-17, 2010)

For some reason, I think this week's ranking doesn't feature a lot of new uploads. In fact, most of the entries are old songs rearranged into the rankings. There were a lot that fell, but there were some who held on strongly, probably affected by album release or a cover from the utattemita category.

↑# - the song moved up from a previous top 30 rank
↓# - song moved down from a previous top 30 rank
- song is a re-entry to the top 30 rankings

Songs are arranged from 1-30.

01. Flightless Bird (Megurine Luka) - MuryokuP
- This is really a beautiful song. From the grandiose intro, to the catchy beat and Luka tuning, it is very smoothly done. The violin/piano team-up is pleasant to listen to. Luka seems to get a bit lost in the chorus because of the beats, but it's not that bad. The art used in the MV is also lovely.

02. Dendrobium Phalaenopsis (Hatsune Miku) - papiyon
- ↑23 A really big jump from its previous place, this ballad named after an orchid uses a deep Miku Append voice and light keyboard, guitar and drums combo.

03. Seventeen (Hatsune Miku) - scop
- Scop is steadily getting better with is compositions. His Yubikiri was already pretty, and then he came out with this cute pop-y song that reminds people of aiko's songs. The piano melody is lovely and is one of the reason why I think this my favorite song by him. His Miku is also smoother now. GJ GJ!

04. Flashback Sound (Hatsune Miku) - KuwagataP
- ↓01 KuwagataP falls a bit, but I think this song is still a favorite. I still dig the guitar parts and Miku's well-tuned voice.

05. Yowamushi Montblanc (GUMI) - Deco*27
- ↑05 DECO*27 GUMI debut song rises again. I personally place this song as one of my favorite GUMI songs and definitely my favorite DECO work. It's not hard on the ears and DECO's softened bass beats complements GUMI's low, sugary voice well.

06. Jigochuu→♡ (Hatsune Miku) - AriehendeP
- Despite the mediocre music and seemingly ordinary Miku voice (it's Append, I was expecting it to sound better), I can't help but admin this is a cute and catchy song. The adorable art also helps in getting the song stuck in your head.

07. 7banme no Boku (Kagamine Len) - mayuko
- It coincidentally got 7th place XD;. Anyway, this is quite an impressive song. It features Len singing for seven different personas. It's entertaining because we get to see a "group" song done by all Lens and we experience just how large Len's range is. The simple piano melody is captivating, too. I like megane!Len the best /biased.

08. a balance (Megurine Luka) - MuryokuP
- Another work by MuryokuP which was too late to be ranked last week, so it reigned this week. I like the other one (Flightless Bird) more, but the guitars are awesome.

09. Yubikiri (Hatsune Miku) - scop
- ↓04 scop's other song drops again. But like I said, this and his other song are one of his best, so I'm expecting at least one of them to stay until next week.

10. Genzai to Mirai no Dilemma (Hatsune Miku) - ShippuP
- ↑15 One of those majestic Miku songs that grows on you when you listen to it over and over. Miku's deep voice reminds me of Urotander, actually, it's cool! It's different from the usual uploads and the use of personas makes this song irresistible. Definitely one of my favorites in the ranking.

11. ARiA (Hatsune Miku) - TokuP
- ↓05 ARiA's magic is dying, but it's still strong. I still can't help feeling this is somewhat inferior to SPiCA, which I can listen to the whole day. This song, I can only listen to it once and find it tiring when looped.

12. Gogatsu Shoujo (Hatsune Miku) - millstones
- millstones is back with a Miku Append song. The intro reminds me of samba and another thing I can't name. Miku, of course, sounds good, although I think the beat, especially the drums could be softened up a bit so it won't drown Miku's voice.

13. Rolling Girl (Hatsune Miku) - wowaka
- ↑27 Epic song is back, probably thanks to Yoppei XD.

14. S・K・Y (Kagamine Rin) - LiveP
- LiveP is so prolific! Especially with his Rin. SKY is a pretty song, Rin just sounds shaky a bit, since she's tuned especially low. But the song doesn't stick and the beat kind of fades away even after a few listens. LiveP definitely has done better.

15. Nurari Kurari (Hatsune Miku) - HoshiumeP
- Quite a gentle song with very light piano music and soprano Miku. Not hard on the ears and sounds cute. The art is really cute, too! It's the first thing that captured me (no it's not because the boy looks like Fuuta, of course not).

16. Keisei Gi Uta (Hatsune Miku) - Musikadelik
- I am such a sucker for this kind of songs, with a traditional Japanese music core. I think this is a gorgeous work. Traditional melody was laced with a bit of techno sounds + Deep Miku vocals captivated me so much. I wonder if it's not really a Miku Append.

17. Melancholic (Kagamine Rin) - Junky
- ↓11 Junky's super catchy song goes down even more.

18. Just Be Friends (Megurine Luka) - Dixie Flatline
- ↑19 Wow. Could this be related to Gero's 1 million views for his JBF -piano ver- cover?

19. Wanwan-o, Nyannyan-o (Hatsune Miku) - NekomushiP
- ↑22 Still so cute! I can watch that rolling animal in the MV all day.

20. Neri no Hoshizora (Kagamine Rin/Len) - HanatabaP
- ↓13 This is a lovely ballad, but it's not catchy enough to capture people, interest, it seems.

21. Guri Guri Megane to Gekkouchuu (Hatsune Miku Dark) - FullkawaP
- ↓03 FullkawaP's rock ballad drops a lot.

22. Rain*Sweet*Umbrella (Hatsune Miku) - UskeP
- Uploaded too late for last week, Uske-P's work finally enters the ranking. This is a song using Miku Append Sweet, which sounds at home with candy pop and pop ballads. Miku sounds so gentle, I was surprised. She almost sounds like a soprano version of GUMI.

23. Ura Omote Lovers (Hatsune Miku) - wowaka
- ↑24 PFFT. So strong XDD;.

24. Sajou no Yumekui Shoujo (Megurine Luka) - hachi
- ↓02 Oh my, hachi's song fell down a lot. I admit it's not as capturing as his previous ones.

25. Sr. Wonderland (Hatsune Miku) - KuchibashiP
- ↓12 The song still reminds me of RPG BGMs.

26. Shirai Yuki no Princess (Hatsune Miku) - NoboruP
- Why hello there, re-entry XD;. I'm certain the sudden boost is helped by Anima's "Another:" version.

27. Sakurazensen Ijou Nashi (Hatsune Miku) - WataruP
- ↓09 Quite a fall here. But it's still an epic song.

28. magnet (Hatsune Miku and Megurine Luka) - minato
- ↓26 magnet is beginning to fall again after the fever of 2 million views and first year anniversary (involving minato to sing a cover of his own song) is slowly dying down.

29. Kudryavka (Kagamine Rin) - Pianissimo
- I love the producer's name! Anyway, the music box-like melody is nice, but Rin sounds a bit off.

30. 1925 (Hatsune Miku) - T-Pocket
- ↓29

I absolutely love the top five songs this week. It's a good week, but it seems that there weren't that many uploads, since most of the old songs are still in the ranking, and we all know how fast Vocaranking moves.

About LiveP - he uses Rin Act1, which is why the tone is very different to most Rin compositions these days! I think S.K.Y sticks better if you fully understand the lyrics though. I can't stop crying everytime I listen to it XDD. Definitely agree it's not my favourite of his, but definitely not forgettable on my part, mostly because of the ending...;;

I must be the only one who finds seventeen mediocre ;_;. It's cute but it doesn't stick for me - DO love the lyrics (and wish I was 17 again) though. And definitely agree that his tuning is getting better! Maybe mostly because Lowry's Room will forever be my favourite favourite scop song and I wished he'd compose something like that again XD

I'm wondering if there's going to be triple wowaka next week. That'll be special........LOL. Since we ALL know World's End Dancehall is inevitably going to be #1.........XD

BTW! Neri no Hoshizora might be ranking so low due to it being unassisted by any utattemita. HanatabaP hasn't uploaded a karaoke for it, which is disappointing, since I can so see this song being propelled up by some popular people dueting it (which would definitely happen, I reckon).
