This week has surprisingly a lot of returning popular songs as well as remnants of the past ranking, so only very few songs are here today. The good side of this is that we have new top songs this week, all of them are so worth checking out.

Since I'm on vacation today, I'm posting the Vocaran while we wait for Utaran :D. I looooooove this week so much because there are a lot of new, amazing releases from famous producers and new ones that have so much potential (I swear, I will stop using 'so much' so much). Because of the awesome new stuff, there are only a few left from last week's ranking, some of them pulled down as a consequence. Still, there are some surprising returns (Matryoshka, what!) and rises. I hope this week will also be an interesting listen for you guys, too, so let's get started.

LiveP / ライブ

mylist | piapro | community

LiveP is prolific and impressively popular Vocaloid producer, particularly renowned for his songs using Kagamine Rin. You might have known him from the recent hits m9 and Mylist Dame!. He is also a member of Live Family, a group of Vocaloid producers and artists, with YuchaP, YajirushiP, DevilishP, OnewP, KuwagataP, etc.

LiveP started uploading his Vocaloid compositions sometime in 2009, although he had been a long-time fan of the Vocaloids as well as his fellow producers. Aside from original songs, he also made covers of popular Vocaloid songs, like HoehoeP's Nee and Ecomaru's Tokyo-to Rock City. His P name was coined by ErogewotaP and was first used as a pet name which eventually became his permanent P name. His name is pronounced "live" as in live performances, although they say it can also mean "live" as in survive, which symbolizes how far he's going to make Vocaloids sound "alive".

His music style is always of these two: pop ballads with a mixture of piano, violins, chimes and subtle electric guitars, especially in his earlier works; or rock with very strong sharp guitars, snappy drums, overall loud music but not strong enough to be hard on the ears. He had tried sugary pop which sounds like cute video game BGMs at one point, although a majority of his works are into upbeat rock melodies and emotional slow songs.

As I said in the premise, LiveP is known for his very interesting tuning of Kagamine Rin. Rin originally has a very sharp voice, spiking especially at high parts. LiveP uses it to the fullest, letting her sing solidly rarely with autotune or other manipulation. He's not afraid to make Rin pronounce every single syllable perfectly and take the risk of making her sing very high. Surprisingly, his Rin never falters at high notes and doesn't even sound squeaky or shrill. His Rin is also known for being "emotional", trilling her R's when mad, drawling in long notes when sad, etc. He always uses Rin, only composing a song or two for Miku, Miki and recently, GUMI.

His works are in popular collab CDs like EXIT TUNES Presents GUMIsm and Vocalonexus, Howring, Innovator, and Kagamination.

Aside from making Vocaloid music, LiveP also sings covers of his and other VocaloidP's works. He is known for having a powerful, deep voice perfect for rock and similar melodies.

sample Vocaloid songs
IchiRin no Uta (First Rin Song) - Rin
Renraku Mada? (Why Won't You Call Me?) - Rin
Cold Hand/s - Rin
Green Straight - GUMI
Urami (Grudge) - Miku x GUMI
Hikarizakura (collaboration with NioP and DevilishP) - Len x Rin

nikki says
I've known about LiveP's works since he uploaded Renraku Mada, but since I'm not very fond of Rin back then, I overlooked his works. And then they uploaded Hikarizakura and while Rin is still not my favorite Vocaloid, I make it a point to listen to his Rin. He's one of the very few Rin producers that I listen to. I prefer his ballads more than his rock songs because they tend to be very emotional at the choruses. My favorite of his works so far is "Cold Hand".

Weekly Vocaloid Ranking #179 (February 28 - March 07, 2011)

Not that many new songs this week and most of the rankings are just movements of those from the previous ranking. However, I hope you won't skip this one because despite the few new stuff, most of the songs are from Ps you don't hear from often or you might have never even heard of before.

Weekly Vocaloid Ranking #175 (January 31-February 7, 2011)

This week's ranking doesn't have as many new stuff as before, but the few new ones are all awesome. At the same time, there's quite a lot of movement among the old songs (and a few familiar ones are rising again...). Pardon the lack of intelligent comments (I'm mostly spazzing, it's unforgivable). It's 1AM LOL.

Weekly Vocaloid Ranking #174 (January 24-31, 2011)

I'm a bit late (by hours?) with this week's writeup, since I'm busy finishing some stuff for this month XD;. Anyway, this week has a lot of remnants of the previous rankings, but there are a few new songs worth a listen. Most of the old songs are at the bottom of the ranking, so it's apparent that the new songs are also top-notch. Super old regulars also showed some strength this week, either returning or not slipping away (yes, this includes daniwellP's nyanya song which is still stuck in my head XD).

I have a mod announcement coming up a bit later, so please wait for that, too!

The first half of 2010 SP ranking (GUMI part) can be found here. For an intro on the SP ranking, please refer to the Miku compilation!

This compilation has even less songs at 80, but I'm sure they're all worth your listen!

Since all of them are GUMI songs, I'll just type the song, composer, and additional Vocaloids used if there are any.

The last one for this year, this is our third list of songs Vocaloid producers sang. They can be self-covers, covers of other songs or original songs altogether. You might be familiar with some of them as they appeared in the utattemita ranking.

A lot of new wonderful songs this week, which is why some of the regulars are pushed off the rankings. But that's alright, because that means we have new stuff to loop, right?
