This week's ranking has a lot of awesome old stuff from the previous week, and tons of new ones worth listening to. Our number 1's pretty strong so no one managed to topple it off the rank, but there are also a few worthy rises, some even from below rank 30.

Also, if you haven't checked it out yet, please do comment on this post. Thank you!

Sorry for the delay! This was supposed to be up yesterday but I fell asleep XD;. And I decided to post it a bit late with a lot of comments instead of just listing stuff. Senbonzakura, like in the utaran, stays strong here but there are a ton of new songs which are all worth a listen!

Apologies again for the lateness. If you've read the utaran, you already now my problems with my Internet. I just hijacked someone's net for a while so I can post this. Again, lack of witty comments and stuff :(.

The first half of 2010 SP ranking (GUMI part) can be found here. For an intro on the SP ranking, please refer to the Miku compilation!

This compilation has even less songs at 80, but I'm sure they're all worth your listen!

Since all of them are GUMI songs, I'll just type the song, composer, and additional Vocaloids used if there are any.

takamatt

mylist | piapro | blog

takamatt is a fairly new Vocaloid producer, having started uploading songs only last October 2009. He has released seven songs in all, the most popular of them, probably the one looping in your player right now: Just A Game (okay, my player, my bad XD). He initially used Miku in his uploads, although he has branched out to using Append, GUMI and Kaai Yuki in his works.

takamatt's style is mostly but not limited to catchy pop. Most of his songs have discreet repetitive beats that make them very loopable. He does both ballads and upbeat songs well, with the ballads usually accompanied by strings. Aside from being super catchy, his works are "singable", meaning they sound very nice when sung by people. It could be because of the pop factor :). His Vocaloids, while not impeccably tuned, sound nice with his melody. His Miku is tuned high to the point of straining, while his Gumi is tuned from medium to impossibly low. Despite that, none of them sound hard on the ears. They sounds a little wobbly at times (especially in his earlier songs), but the beat of his songs makes up for that.

sample songs
Combine Moon (Miku)
Ai no Yorokobi (GUMI)
Urara Urara ka (Kaai Yuki)
Life (Append)
Just a Game (GUMI)

takamatt's Etude No. 3 was what got me into following his works. I don't find his tuning of GUMI very impressive, but he composes very nice, easy-to-listen music. When I say his music is not very complicated, I meant it as a compliment since it means it doesn't take any effort to listen and like his songs. Of course my favorites from him would be his GUMI works although I really like Yuki's song. Also, Miku's "Life" kind of reminds me of the Beatles for some reason ;).

For a proper intro, please read the Miku ranking here. You might be wondering why I jumped to the GUMI ranking. I'm playing favorites :D. ANYWAYYYY... GUMI only has 90 songs, so it's a little easier for me...I think.

So far, this and the annual rankings are the only ones I type in reverse order (from 100-1) so that it'd be more exciting :). If you want me to do the midyear/annual rankings in the traditional way (the 1-xx order), just tell me :).

You might notice that some of the titles/P names are still in Japanese. It's because I'm not sure how to romanize them correctly.

I personally like the new Luka and Rin songs in the ranking this week, as well as the Hayabusa tribute. Most of the songs are new, I think. But there are strong ones which have made a home of the ranking /coughwowakacough.

This is a good week for uploads and pull-ups. We get Rin, GUMI and Miku in the top 10, a couple of Hayabusa dedications and some oldies surprisingly returning to the top 30. Of course, there's also wowaka's classic works haunting us XD.

A few announcements so as not to waste post count :).

• I forgot to do the monthly ranking...again. Sorry. I'll do it tomorrow.
• I might not be able to do spotlights again this week. (Work deadline is on Friday, but you don't want to know the details) Next week! I'll try my best!

• I updated the tracklist of PointFive's enhAnce CD here :).
Hiwaily*2, that host club CD like Smiley*2 has formally introduced their cast as Amu, Miichan, So~ma, Jigiru, Riseha and [REN]. Note that they also have Kantou and Tokyo branches. Riseha is a girl, but she sounds so adorable here ;_;.
Kogeinu has announced in his new(?) blog the release of two CDs collectively called Uttemoratta. The first CD, which is themed "popular singers collection" has Clear, Dasoku, Pokota, ASK and Kettaro. The second CD, themed "no gender distinction" has Kogeinu, Hitori, che:Sakurai and vip-tenchou. XD This is going to be interesting. Please get your wallets ready by July!
