Since Junky is to release a CD soon, I think it's just right that we feature him now for those people who are interested in his album :).
Junky started uploading Vocaloid songs in NND around mid-2009. He started with metal and hard rock as his genre, which might be influenced with his experience as a guitarist for the doujin circle Crony Craft. However, later on, he branched out to be more flexible in terms of pop, electronica, etc. Despite the variety in his music, he is not very prolific and has only six Vocaloid songs in Nico Nico Douga, the most popular of which is
Melancholic, which is about to reach a million views soon.
Junky's style, as stated before, changes with each song, although he is quite loyal to his guitar music. After hard rock, he shifted to jazz rock and eventually into electronic pop and recently back to hard rock. While it might confuse some, since most of the producers we know have a specific genre they are good at, Junky's flexibility makes each of his songs an entirely different experience. His guitar-playing is sharp and snappy, often coupled with a mixture of other instruments including but not limited to synthesizer, piano, and drums. Since each of his song differs in genre, it's a bit hard to describe solidly his musical style.
As he changes his music styles every time he makes a song, so does his Vocaloids. His prime Vocaloid at the moment seems to be Kagamine Rin, but lately he's also been using Hatsune Miku and Gumi. All his Vocaloids are toned in medium pitch, slowly and eventually rising into a high-pitched chorus but not shrill to the ears.
Despite his limited number of songs, he is pretty popular in the Vocaloid scene because most of his songs are all hits. He has even participated in a number of compilation albums including
EXIT TUNES' Gumism, Supernova and Vocaloanthems, Vocaloid Lovesongs Girls Side and Vocaloid Best from Nico Nico Douga (Blue). He has released a CD last year named
Quarter, which featured his hits and more. This August, he is going to have a major debut with utaite Choucho, releasing an album called
Lapis.

nikki saysLike most of you, I knew of Junky because of his hit,
Melancholic. I didn't like it much at first, but it was so catchy and it started to be one of my favorite Rin songs. However, I only managed to listen to most of his works when I listened to the
crossfade for his CD "Quarter". I'm not a big fan of electronic, but I love his jazz rock, especially
SparkRING. His songs might not sound that good on the first listen, but as you listen to them over and over, they grow on you.
I can't wait for his and Choucho's album :3. It's going to be released August 24 for 2,000 yen. You can see a sneak video of their recording/rehearsals
here.
