Weekly Vocaran # 167 (12/6 - 12/13, 2010)
Weekly Vocaloid Ranking #167 (December 6-13, 2010)
So many shiny new things this week, and the influx of GUMI songs is really wonderful~! There are some remnants of great songs last week, too. We're having Christmas-related stuff appearing now, so prepare for some creepy and maybe not so creepy Christmas spirit XD.
↑# - the song moved up from a previous top 30 rank
↓# - song moved down from a previous top 30 rank
↵ - song is a re-entry to the top 30 rankings

Songs are arranged from 1-30.
01. Christmas Morgue (Hatsune Miku) - hachi
- Hachi rules the ranking again with his rather morbidly titled Christmas-themed song ^^;. The intro reminded me of a Fullkawa song, but when Miku started singing, hachi's signature tuning and guitar/chime melody ascend to reveal a song reminiscent of clock lock works. Really pretty. I love the slight creaks of the guitar at the end of stanzas.
02. Yoku Aru Rinne to Neko no Hanashi (Hatsune Miku) - KotsubanP
- ↑5
03. Cassiopeia (Hatsune Miku) - InogashiraP
- Jigiru/Inogashira's second Vocaloid original is a lovely rock ballad with a really grand intro: violins and piano going all out before Miku sings. Miku's tuning is good and her voice is clear despite the influx of guitars, violins, drums and piano.
04. Hystery (GUMI) - KuwagataP
- There are no words to describe how glad I am to see this. This is originally a song KuwagataP sang himself for his album. It is Kuwagata's usual dose of rock, with guitars and even the rise at the chorus reminiscent of Flashback Sound. But it's because it's usual Kuwagata that's why it's awesome. BTW,
the_desserter has transcribed and translated the lyrics of this song here.
05. Sayonara (Hatsune Miku) - Ein
- What a sad song. But the piano melody with random violins is very nice.
06. Piko Piko Legend of the Night (Utatane Piko) - samfree
- One of the first uploads using Utatane Piko is of course, samfree's eurobeat installment. Piko sounds surprisingly clear and manly. It's just a different feeling listening to a Vocaloid version when you have heard the real deal sing XD.
07. One Night Disco (Megurine Luka) - nana
- Cute technopop from nana, who is getting better with her every upload. Luka sounds a bit muffled because of the overlaying beats plus additional enhancements on her voice, but that's okay, I guess. At first it might seem similar to an EasyPop or Junky song but Luka's deep voice, the really sassy chorus and the additional background vocals make the song unique.
08. Isshu no Pokemon Ieru no ka! (Gachapoid x Hatsune Miku) -
- This is surprisingly good!
09. Mukashi Mukashi no Kyou no Boku (Hatsune Miku) - DECO*27 x ShijigenP
- ↓02
10. Poker Face (GUMI) - Yucha
- ↓01
11. Matryoshka (GUMI x Hatsune Miku) - hachi
- keeper
12. China★Yachaina (Hatsune Miku) - K!
- FFFF This is kind of a slight satire weaved into a really good rockish song. The erhu melody is a nice touch and the chorus is catchy.
13. Little Emmy to Hoshi no Tegami (GUMI) - scop
- ↑19
14. Mozaik Role (GUMI) - DECO*27
- ↑15
15. infection waves (Hatsune Miku) - KetchuP
- This is a bit late to the party since it was uploaded on November? Nevertheless, what a catchy song. The beat is a bit too familiar (Mortal Kombat? LOL) but the whole song is an interesting listen.
16. Happy Synthesizer (GUMI x Megurine Luka) - EasyPop
- ↓07
17. Invisible Cockpit (Kaai Yuki) - yuniP
- Don't let the title fool you, the song is not rockish or violent at all. In fact, Yuki sounds so gentle here, her high voice mixing well with the simple piano music. Eventually, the song rises into a grandiose auditory display of violins, echoing booms and dexterous piano music. Yuki's voice gets drowned a bit but the melody's all worth it.
18. Kotoba Meteor (Utatane Piko) - HYBRID SENSE
- If samfree gave us a eurobeat sample of Piko's voice, Haisense gave us a rockish beat with the guitar melody played by [TEST]. Piko sounds a bit more nasal here but he sounds good against the strong background music.
19. Seiya, Aiken ga Video Deck ni Tsumaru (Hatsune Miku) - Ie no Ura de Manbou ga ShinderuP
- Generic rock music, but the video and the lyrics are amusing XD.
20. World's End Dancehall (Hatsune Miku x Megurine Luka) - wowaka
- ↑21
21. Present (Hatsune Miku) - FuwariP
- What a Christmassy song! I still don't know much about the lyrics but the melody makes or can make anyone feel happy. It reminds me of Nem's winter gift, which has a similar cheery aura that makes you think of snow, fairy lights and shopping xD.
22. Karappo no Mani Mani (Hatsune Miku) - PinocchioP
- ↓03
23. Yowamushi Montblanc (GUMI) - DECO*27
- ↑25
24. Hijitsuzai Seishounen Kenzen Ikuseihou (Hatsune Miku) - koushirou/HikutsuP
- ↓04
25. innocent girl (Kaai Yuki) - kagomeP
- The talkloid might turn people off, but this is a really cool song with a cool PV. KagomeP is one of those people who can tune Yuki wonderfully. This is certainly a new look at Yuki's image and the way she's tuned so low is interesting.
26. SheSaw Day (Kagamine Len) - collab
- ↓24 The lyrics are by ShounenT (yes, the utaite) and Indio. Len's tuning is by KannazukiP and the movie is by Gacha.
27. Kimi no Maboroshi (Hatsune Miku) - U-ske
- U-skeP's gentle trance-like beats get me all the time despite me not liking techno/electronica. His Miku is, as always, soft and almost whispering against the beautifully soft upbeat music. Very easy on the ears.
28. Jest of Six (Megurine Luka) - Touka Nayuta x Myriad
- ↓09
29. Buttobashite Yarouka! Baby (Hatsune Miku) - Mitani Nana
- Surprisingly, the song is not Mitani Nana-ish. It's pop-rockish with really good guitars that are sadly drowned against random beats. Miku's tuning is good, though and she blends well against the melody. The lyrics are a bit monotonous but the chorus makes up for it.
30. Memories (Hatsune Miku) - SmileR
- ↓20
pickup
• Chihiro no Umi Banri no Suna ~Kimi Koifuru Uta~ (Kagamine Rin and Len) - UtaP
• Boku dake no Kamisama (Hatsune Miku) - Will

I'm surprised at how UTAU!Piko still manages to sound good. Do UTAUs usually sound that good? O_O
And I'm listening to Hystery right now. GUMI sounds good <3. There seems to be more good songs this week...
