Weekly Vocaloid Ranking # 221 (December 19-26, 2011)

Yesterday was Kagamine Rin and Len's birthday! But the Kagamine wave still hasn't reached this week's ranking (too late D:) so we'll have to wait next week for that, hopefully. However, this ranking is pretty special in a way because you get to hear awesome first songs from THREE new Vocaloids. That would be CUL, Yuzuki Yukari, and IA ~Aria on the Planetes~. I'm surprised at how wonderful they all sound, not to mention they were tuned and their songs composed by really veteran/popular producers, so I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did. Aside from that, we have a few strong songs from last week as well as new stuff from popular sings (longtimenoseedoriko!) so this is pretty much a ranking that won't bore you at all. Enjoy!

Weekly Vocaloid Ranking #220 (December 12-19, 2011)

While having a lot of remnant from last week, this ranking boasts of wonderful new songs specifically from GUMI and from the to-be-released Vocaloid IA -Aria on the Planetes-. There are a couple of songs which are also going to be part of big albums, as well as covers and rearrangements.

The picture cover for this ranking, by the way, is new Vocaloid Tone Rion.

Weekly Utattemita Ranking # 163 (December 12-19, 2011)

This week, we are facing the second part of the PONPONPON matsuri as well as an influx of popular people suddenly uploading songs (Yaybisasamakkufaneruetc). We also have quite a few Babylon covers for some good reason. It's a pretty predicatable ranking, but I hope you enjoy the variety this one gives (in between the PON and the WEI).

From now on, I'll prioritize linking the English version.

↑# - the song moved up from a previous top 30 rank
↓# - song moved down from a previous top 30 rank
- song is a re-entry to the top 30 rankings

I'll be including the weekly top ten and the overall top thirty of the week. Links to the nicovideo are included as well as some information. You may download the .mp3 file by inputting the link @ nicosound. Enjoy!

Weekly Vocaloid Ranking # 219 (December 05-12, 2011)

This week, we have a lot of covers courtesy of the queen of Len covers, OrebananaP. There are also surprisingly a lot of returning songs, most probably because of their covers in the Utattemita Ranking. We also have quite a few unfamiliar names in this ranking so if you can, please spare a minute to check their music out!

Weekly Vocaloid Ranking # 203 (August 15-22, 2011)

Apologies that this is late again. I'm having problems with Nicodou today and I can't load the individual videos, so I just settled for the ranking video itself and the song previews. Sorry of the comments are much more unhelpful than usual ^^;.

It's MMD cup season so you'll be seeing a lot of MMD videos. There's also quite a lot of Rin, which means variety from the GUMI-fest we had recently. You'll notice in the history from this ranking and the previous that last year, around this time was the time popular producers started using GUMI (hachi, SignalP, etc.), probably signifying her rise in popularity, too :). It's been a year since Matryoshka, WTF.... I am still looping it..........

This is so late. I'm so sorry. Anyway, this week, we STILL have a lot of GUMI and surprisingly many Luka songs. A lot have still remained from the previous ranking, though.

PRODUCER SPOTLIGHT: ORYO/TambourineP

ORYO/タンバリンP/tambourineP

mylist | blog | twitter | community

ORYO has been active in Nico Nico Douga since 2009. His music is vocarock but there's a variety to it. His GUMI can be improved in terms of tuning as I find some of them too low or too high for some lines of the song. The best part of all of his songs are the display of the musical instruments in it. He is good with guitar, drums and bass so majority of the songs would have him play the instruments. A good rock song is one that can blend guitars, bass and drums but you can still hear each of them distinctly. He has managed to show this in his songs. The instrumental parts of the songs are really pleasing to the ears. At first, his music can be likened to other vocarock producers like Yuyoyuppe's and otetsu's songs but ORYO has his unique sound so it's hard to really compare him.

His main vocaloid may be GUMI, however, he has used Gakupo once already. He released Gakupo's Koe under TambourineP but he has removed his upload from NND. Koe is one of the Excellence Award winners of the Gakupo contest held in 2009.

He also contributes in writing songs, guitar/bass accompaniment for units like stiRise (with Kettaro and Beeeeige) and L.I.N.E (with HYBRID SENSE and che:sakurai). For stiRise, ORYO composed a song called champagne gold spangle which is my favorite song composed by him. He also played the bass for TokuP's Aria.

Aside from producing vocaloid songs, ORYO also mixes for other utaite. He sings covers of his own songs like behind me and an original one like loverberry drop. His voice is low which is perfect for a lot of rock songs.

He will be releasing his first album at VOMAS 16 entitled CLOSET. You can listen to the crossfade demo here.

Vocaloid original songs:

GUMI - behind me
GUMI - Shinkaron code:variant
GUMI - Monotone Collector

Utattemita:
behind me (self cover)

len says

ORYO is actually new to me since the first song I heard of him is shinkaron:code variant. I actually wouldn't have heard this song if it weren't covered by a lot of utaite. It made an impression on me since I love songs that have heavy emphasis on the instruments. I like champagne gold spangle a lot but among his vocaloid works, my favorite is Monotone Collector.

He's the first male vocarock producer that I really liked. He may have only uploaded a handful of songs but I find myself looping all of them. For me, a good rock song should have me interested at the introduction. ORYO has managed to do that with all of his songs.

Weekly Vocaloid Ranking # 189 (May 5-16, 2011)

This week has a lot of new songs (and a lot of returners!) and is interesting because there are actually many producers in the ranking which you probably haven't seen before XD;. This ranking is worth your listen, I guarantee it, so let's get to it!

As always, thank you so much to Iori-san for adopting the ranking and taking the time to upload! Let's also hope that sippotan and his house/family are safe and are near recovery! That said, let's go on with the ranking.

Weekly Vocaloid Ranking # 187 (April 25-May 2, 2011)

This week's Vocaran has a LOT of new stuff, most of them very awesome, so you guys better check them out. You might notice the descriptions are missing in some of the songs. That's because I can't load anything in Nico today and the ones I have descriptions of are those I've watched before. So, most of those written there are my opinions based on what I remember of the song (please kick my slow Internet). Sorry. ANYWAY...

Weekly Vocaloid Ranking # 186 (April 18-25, 2011)

Today's ranking has a lot of movements, especially in the old songs (I'm a bit surprised at the rises XD). There is also the Kira Miki Fest, which is why we have 2-3 Miki songs in the ranking this week. There are also a lot of new ones to check out! :)

As always, thank you so much to Iori-san for adopting the ranking and taking the time to upload! Let's also hope that sippotan and his house/family are safe and are near recovery! That said, let's go on with the ranking.

Weekly Vocaran #169 (12/20-27, 2010)

Weekly Vocaloid Ranking #169 (December 20-27, 2010)

This week's ranking doesn't have as many new uploads as before but hey, 15 new songs in the ranking isn't bad. There are strong keepers (LOLwowakadecoetc) but the ones who rose to the top are new, lovely music definitely worth a listen. I apologize for the lateness of this post, though, as well, Christmas = parties = sleepless nights. Yup. Not to mention the Internet is amazingly slow during the holidays, isn't it? Anyway....

Vocaloid Midyear Special Ranking 2010 (GUMI compilation)

For a proper intro, please read the Miku ranking here. You might be wondering why I jumped to the GUMI ranking. I'm playing favorites :D. ANYWAYYYY... GUMI only has 90 songs, so it's a little easier for me...I think.

So far, this and the annual rankings are the only ones I type in reverse order (from 100-1) so that it'd be more exciting :). If you want me to do the midyear/annual rankings in the traditional way (the 1-xx order), just tell me :).

You might notice that some of the titles/P names are still in Japanese. It's because I'm not sure how to romanize them correctly.
