Monthly Nico Nico Indies Ranking #17 - September to October 2011

This is a combination of the rankings for September and October. As the NNI category is pretty slow with updates, there's still a lot of old stuff in this ranking. However, there are also a lot of new ones worth watching, although you may have already encountered them somewhere if you follow some VocaloP/utaite's original stuff. Apologies for the lateness, I didn't realize it was already uploaded OTL.

Sorry for the delay! This was supposed to be up yesterday but I fell asleep XD;. And I decided to post it a bit late with a lot of comments instead of just listing stuff. Senbonzakura, like in the utaran, stays strong here but there are a ton of new songs which are all worth a listen!

↓# - song moved down from a previous top 30 rank
- song is a re-entry to the top 30 rankings

Weekly Vocaloid Ranking # 208 (September 19-26, 2011)

Apologies again for a post with lame comments. Anyway, Senbonzakura is in full bloom as it rises to the top, but there are also a loooot of new songs this week from people you already know and love so be sure to check them out! Some of them includes a new brainwash song (not again D: ), some GUMI V3 initial songs and a lot of hard rock stuff.

Nico Nico Monthly Indies Ranking - July 2011

Since I dropped the monthly Vocaloid ranking, I decided to replace it this time with the Monthly Nico Nico Indies Ranking.

Nico Nico Indies is a small part of the Nico Nico Douga site where people post their original works. The concept that is different from Vocaloid/Utattemita/Ensoushitemita is that the works here are all original and are usually instrumental or sung by people. Of course, while there are many unfamiliar names here, there are VocaloidPs and utaites that participate in this area, too, especially when they collaborate to sing original songs. Oftentimes, original songs from NNI appear also in utattemita, so you might recognize some of them. NNI is also a very slow-moving category, so there are only a few views/participants than what you might be used to.

I'm glad this ranking is just monthly because gathering information on the artists is a bit difficult, especially since I am also a bit new in this area. Since this writeup is to introduce people to NNI, I tried my best to be as descriptive as possible. If you are a fan of anyone mentioned in this ranking please feel free to chip in other information you can share re: the artist!

Since it has almost the same format, this ranking will be arranged just like the utattemita ranking, minus the colorful letters :). This might be a bit tl;dr than most of my rankings, so please be warned! Also, as I said before, this is a slow-moving category, so you will encounter songs here which you might have already heard months ago :).

Nico Nico Indies Original Album "&".

This "album" is a collaboration among Vocaloid producers, utaite, illustrators, and other artists, but it's not really an album. Actually, it's a series of songs uploaded in Nico Nico as a "set". If you know about the previous season albums "Utaite Tsunagu Album" which has included Clear, Wotamin, Re:A and others in the past, "&" is very much like them.

The theme is "relationships, ties and connections with all things". Each song is a collaboration of a VocaloidP, a singer, and an artist who did the PV. All songs are original and they are not covers of existing songs.

Here's the list of the songs, collab team and a short description on each song. The whole set is in this mylist. When you listen to one song, it automatically forwards to the next track, but in case it doesn't work, just check the mylist :).

Weekly Utaran #119 (2/7-2/14, 2011)

Weekly Utattemita Ranking #119 (February 07-14, 2011)

This ranking is late by a day because of some problems in Nico Nic Douga's system (you might notice, Vocaran is late, too). This week is pretty weak in comparison to the previous weeks. There aren't many covers and there aren't covers powerful enough to topple other songs over. Which means there are some new names and songs you might have not encountered before but are worth a look! It's just unfortunate that I'm too tired to give interesting comments so sad to say, you'll be missing my spazz this week orz. I'll double the efforts next week! Anyway-----

NOTE: As of February 16, 11PM Japan time, this ranking has been edited to reflect the corrections in the nicovideo version. Due to the changes, the overall ranking has been slightly altered.

↑# - the song moved up from a previous top 30 rank
↓# - song moved down from a previous top 30 rank
- song is a re-entry to the top 30 rankings

I'll be including the weekly top ten and the overall top thirty of the week. Links to the nicovideo are included as well as some information. You may download the .mp3 file by inputting the link @ nicosound. Enjoy!

Vocaloid Midyear Special Ranking 2010 2nd Part (Hatsune Miku compilation)

As you might remember, I posted the midyear special ranking sometime in July, where the songs included were those uploaded from December 2009 to June 2010. This is the LATTER PART of that ranking, where the top songs from June 15 to December 14, 2010 are uploaded.

The video has 80 songs, but the mylist has 200 songs O_O;. A-anyway, I've included them all in the list. As with the previous mid-year ranking and all the other rankings which aren't weekly, this is written in reverse for more suspense :D.

Since all of them are Miku songs, I'll just type the song, composer and additional Vocaloids used if there are any :).

Weekly Vocaran #170 (12/27/10-01/03/11)

Weekly Vocaloid Ranking #170 (December 27, 2010 - January 3, 2011)

To welcome the new year, there are many new uploads and all of them have their own charm. There are quite a few popular producers in this ranking, so I hope you enjoy! Please do not mind the lack of/useless comments from me. I was doing this in the middle of an Asamakkurai namahousou so pardon the randomness from my partly broken brain.

Weekly Vocaloid Ranking #169 (December 20-27, 2010)

There are strong keepers (LOLwowakadecoetc) but the ones who rose to the top are new, lovely music definitely worth a listen. producer spotlight: Nanou/HoehoeP

Hi! I'm not Nikki. But since I was fangirling this producer on twitter earlier... err, yeah. 8DD

Nanou/HoehoeP

mylist | twitter | blog | community

HoehoeP's most popular work is probably his most recent which is Hello/How are you. Wrapped in a cutey-cutey melody, the lyrics of this song are actually pretty... heavy. I believe this is one of the things that ties most of HoehoeP's works together. There is always an element of heaviness/darkness in his lyrics and usually hardly a hint of it in his music. This is most probably the influence of one of his favorite bands, Syrup16g.

While there are producers that tend to have a very recognizable music style (wowaka, 40mP, hachi amongst the most obvious ones, in my opinion), HoehoeP's music style has somewhat evolved throughout his upload history. I've chosen the sample songs below to demonstrate this. :D I believe this is because he uses the vocaloid side of his compositions to try out various things he cannot do with his own voice. However, one thing that’s common amongst his works is that his Miku (the only vocaloid he has used so far) always tends to sing so cutely. ....Including his Heart Sutra Anime Opening version Miku.

HoehoeP is also one of those singing producers. Though he did mention before that for him, singing is still main “thing”, so he might actually be more of a composing singer, in his opinion, ahaha. He actually has a non-vocaloid-world band called Lyu:Lyu where he does the main vocals and guitars. They even have music videos like this one.

Finally, I would like to say that HoehoeP’s entirety can be defined by his kaomoji: (・ωW)

If you try following him or listening to his namahousous you’ll get what I mean, believe me. w

deza says
I actually have a lot to say about HoehoeP ‘cuz I’m really a big fan of his but I’ll try my best to limit my rambling. XD He’s my number one P forever~ lol. /o/

The first song I heard amongst his works was Bungaku no Shounen no Yuutsu but what really made me love him forever is Sakura no Zenya. After listening to a namahousou of his, I loved him even more since it so happened that on that one he was still testing out stuff and was trying to get the piano/keyboard sound into the broadcast and did various stuff like saying “Oh, could this be it? ... -Long Silence- ...Well, obviously it wasn’t that one, huh. He was so amazingly happy when the sound finally came out! Then in the end he gave up on the keyboard because he couldn’t play Bungaku Shounen on it (he isn’t really a piano player) and got his guitar. He has thus earned nicknames like MoemoeP and JikoP from fans and fellow producers alike. Or so I first thought. It turns out, JikoP was earned because he fell down the stairs at some gathering or event of sorts. He also tweeted about falling asleep at the train station once and actually falling to the floor. This person really..... ^^;;;

However, he transforms into cool (yeah. BD) once he sings except for his regularly present i-forgot-the-lyrics moments so all is bright and well in the world!

NEW UPLOAD RANKING

o1. 「天樂」を歌ってみた【グリリ】
Tengaku [Guriri]
singer's mylist
Kagamine Rin original by YuuyuP
• One of the better female renditions of this song that I've heard. It does sound like she's overexerting herself in some parts, though ;;;.

o2. 【重音テト】テトでブラック★ロックシューターつくってみた【MMD】
Black Rock Shooter (Kasane Teto Edition) [Oyamano Mano]
• Hatsune Miku original by ryo
• 10-10-10 was Kasane Teto day, according to Nico Nico Douga and the Vocaloid-dom was busy uploading songs to commemorate the day. This is a unique one since it's a cover of Black Rock Shooter Teto version by the Oyamano Mano. Mano is the source of Teto's voicebank.

o3. 【シャノ】「君の手、僕の手」を歌ってみたよ
Kimi no te, Boku no te [Chano]
singer's mylist
Hatsune Miku original by 40mP

o4. 【バル】「トップシークレット」を歌ってみた。
Top Secret [Baru]
singer's mylist
Hatsune Miku original by scop

o5. 【ちょも】Stardusterを歌ってみた【コゲ犬】
Starduster [Chomo feat. Kogeinu]
singer's mylist
Hatsune Miku original by Jimmythumb
• Quite a nice cover by Chomo, who I do not know at all ;_;. Koge's manly voice does a pretty good job of making me OAO at the choruses.

o6. ハロ/ハワユ 歌ってみた *リツカ*
Hello / How Are You [Ritsuka]
singer's mylist
Hatsune Miku original by HoehoeP
• Ritsuka sounds cute as usual, although not as cute as the hit cover by Kano. Somehow, she reminds me of Wotamin here.

o7. 【ぎらり】ロゼッタ、歌ってみた【秋赤音】
Rozetta [Aki Akane]
singer's mylist
GUMI original by monaca:factory
• Somehow, I didn't think this would be a song fitting for Akane's voice, but I guess it's okay?

o8. 【歌ってみた】檸檬【鹿乃】
Remon [Kano]
singer's mylist
GUMI original by Faye x Junky
• Kano is back with another cute song.

o9. 『Calc.』を歌わせて頂きました。【灯油】
Calc. [Touyu]
singer's mylist
Hatsune Miku original by JimmythumbP
• Touyu seems to be in a roll.

1o. 【tane】『ぼくらの16bit戦争』歌ってみた【ZERO】
Bokura no 16-bit Sensou [tane x Zero]
• mylists tane; Zero
GUMI original by Sasakure.UK
• GAH I love this. This duo's serifu taimu really works well.

Singing Producers

Last weekend, the_desserter and I were talking about HoehoeP/Nanou and his singing skills and eventually, it kind of branched out to producers in the utattemita category. Hence, this post is born XD.

Producers are known in the Vocaloid part of Nico Nico Douga as the composers, lyricists and Vocaloid tuners. But not many people know that a lot of producers also sing (either in the utattemita section only or in the whole doujin scene). Sometimes they sing covers of their own songs (self-covers) or songs of other Vocaloid producers. You may know one producer who sings covers of songs, you know, Tourai (minato/RyuuseiP)? XD He's one of the few who uses a different name for his covers, but that was because he was named Tourai/Tolie/Turai even before he admitted that he's minato ^^;.

Here are some of the producers who also upload their songs. Most of them have rearranged versions of the songs they are covering, sometimes just accompanied by guitar (they sound awesome, btw XD). These are some that I know of, but there are a lot more producers who upload their own singing, so if you know of them, please do inform me in the comments :3. The songs I used are just samples, though. Please visit their mylists for more.

Just a heads up since you might not notice, but I won't be using YT links/embeds for utattemita/Vocaloid music anymore unless it's something not in Nicovideo. Some songs are being deleted off YT and IDK really how producers/singers think of people multi-posting their works in YT, so to keep it safe, I'm using the official Nico Nico Douga links forever XD;. Vocaloid Midyear Special Ranking 2010 Megurine Luka compilation

For a proper intro, please read the Miku ranking here. Luka has a lot of songs, too, a total of a hundred I think. I'll be including all of them below.

So far, this and the annual rankings are the only ones I type in reverse order (from 100-1) so that it'd be more exciting :). If you want me to do the midyear/annual rankings in the traditional way (the 1-xx order), just tell me :).

You might notice that some of the titles/P names are still in Japanese. It's because I'm not sure how to romanize them correctly.
